Host De La Salle held an 11-point lead in the first half but held off one Providence comeback after another in the Catholic League South win.
Opening the fourth with a 41-32 lead, the Meteors watched Providence cut the deficit to 41-38 with 4:50 to go. Karl Harris (9 points) scored inside, on a no-look pass from Brandon Hutton, the next time down for De La Salle (8-9, 5-3). After a Hutton free throw, Aaron Jones (10 points) hit a corner three-pointer to make it 47-38, turning the tide for good for the Meteors.
Hutton. The 6-foot-5 junior finished with 12 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Providence (9-9, 3-5) never gave up. The Celtics trailed by at least nine points in each quarter — and even led 32-31 in the third — but hit just 11-of-24 free throws. Miles Boykin finished with 11 points and Mitch Vander Wey 10 points for Providence. Martez Cameron had 11 points for De La Salle.
