Argo 46, Reavis 42
A week earlier, Tyler Mitchell scored 38 points against Richards. Against Reavis, things didn’t go as smoothly. Mitchell sat most of the second quarter because of foul trouble, managed just one field goal in the third, but when Argo needed someone to guide their comeback in the fourth, Mitchell was up to the task.
Trailing 42-41, the three-year varsity starter, whom coach Pat Maietta describes as “having a lot of confidence,” proved his coach correct as he hit a jumper over two defenders with 21.2 seconds remaining.
Mitchell finished the night with a quiet 23 points, including 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Bryant Smith (13 points) also scored in double figures for the Argonauts (7-12, 4-5 South Suburban Red). Ed Puha led Reavis (12-7, 3-5) with 23 points. Abdalrhman Ishtaiah added 11 points, also shadowing Mitchell for the night.
BY THE NUMBERS
Argo continued its strong performance from the charity stripe going 13-of-16 from the line.
“He’s a competitor and a winner. He refused to let us lose.” — Maietta, on Mitchell
