Boys Basketball

Hillcrest 52, Homewood-Flossmoor 44: DeAngelo Isby put in 14 points to pace Hillcrest (15-6) in Country Club Hills. Allen Jones added 13 points for the Hawks and Taylor Adway netted 11. Homewood-Flossmoor fell to 11-8.

Girls Basketball

Marian Catholic 58, Benet 47: Teniya Page chalked up 22 points and Ashton Millender scored 16 to lift visiting Marian Catholic (19-4, 5-0) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Richards 59, Romeoville 48: Sydni Tears scored 19 points to lead host Richards (11-11). Brianna Kuchenny and Christina Kwartnik added nine points each for the Bulldogs.

Illiana Christian 51, Ridgewood 29: Gabby Kreykes poured in 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to boost visiting Illiana Christian (10-16, 5-7) in the Metro Suburban.

Providence 52, Marist 46: Alyssa Jurges’ 18 points sparked visiting Providence (16-12, 4-4) in the East Suburban Catholic. Mary Beth Galick (9 rebounds) and Mary Fashingbauer (8 rebounds) added 13 points apiece for the Celtics. Marist fell to 11-12, 3-5.

Beecher 63, Watseka 50: Taylor Johnson compiled 26 points and seven rebounds to vault host Beecher (19-6). Danielle Snuckel tacked on 17 points for the Bobcats.

St. Edward 46, Chicago Christian 35: Kaycee Pittman provided 11 points for host Chicago Christian (7-14, 3-7) in the Suburban Christian Gold.

Girls Bowling

Brooks Regional: Medalist Elan Boynes-Page (1,241) propelled Evergreen Park (5,159) to the team title at Bluebird Lanes in Chicago. Sarah Klawitter (1,197) and Daisha Garrison (1,004) also starred for the Mustangs. Kayla Garcia (1,088) led the way for second-place T.F. South (5,001). Eisenhower (4,656) and T.F. North (4,608) also qualified for the sectional round. Morgan Park’s Tiarra Wilkins (1,035) headed the list of six area bowlers who earned at-large berths to the sectional.

St. Ignatius Regional: Amanda Weiss (957) led Argo (4,222) to a third-place showing and a spot on the sectional level. Fourth-place De La Salle (4,144) also qualified thanks to Tatiana Utreras (922), who had the top score for the Meteors at Cicero’s Town Hall Lanes. Morton (4,875) won the title, while Lindblom’s Mia Pope (1,206) recorded the best individual series.

Wrestling

Class 3A Bradley Individual Regional: Michael Burke (120 pounds), Connor Bandy (145) and Devion May (220) turned in first-place performances for Homewood-Flossmoor (133 points), which took third out of nine teams. Bloom (85) was sixth, the Blazing Trojans led by 160-pound champion Dominique Taylor. Moline (168.5) won the team title.

Class 3A Lyons Individual Regional: Reavis teammates Jesus Vasquez (120) and Sam Almousa (138) won championships, along with Argo’s Cosmo Halwix (195). Reavis (81.5) was the top area team, finishing sixth. Lyons (181) won the crown in the nine-team meet.

Class 3A Mount Carmel Individual Regional: Mount Carmel (244) qualified 13 wrestlers to the sectional level in topping St. Rita (208.5) for the team crown. Brother Rice (140.5) was third and Oak Lawn (138) fourth among the nine scoring squads. The champion Caravan received first-place efforts from Jacob Tucker (132), Bryce Brill (152), Dru Worker (170), Jimmy Mickens (182), Aaron Davis (220) and Matthew Reyes (285). St. Rita had four winners, the group consisting of Austin O’Connor (106), Colt Kielbasa (120), Mike Falco (138) and Jack Threloff (145). Brother Rice teammates Rudy Yates (113) and Rahman Johnson (126) were tops in their divisions along with Oak Lawn’s Joe Robinson (160) and Jeff Burzinski (195).

Class 2A Simeon Individual Regional: Saul Reyes (152) and Frank Quintana (182) posted pins in their championship matches as De La Salle (183.5) finished second to Simeon (254) in the 10-team field. Robert Zebrauskas (120), Devin Michicich (132) and Collin Farley (170) also captured titles for the Meteors, who sent four other individuals to the sectional.

Class 2A Belvidere Individual Regional: Joliet Catholic’s Anthony McInerney qualified for the sectional after beating Belvidere’s Austin Ziriaxe 10-6 in third-place match at 195 pounds. Sandwich (174) won first place, while Joliet Catholic (31) came in ninth.

Class 2A LaSalle-Peru Individual Regional: Lincoln-Way West (259.5) rolled to the team title ahead of runner-up LaSalle-Peru (151). Tom Buell (106), Kyle Ruettiger (126), Kyle Rodriguez (145) and Javier Montalvo (170) turned in championships for the Warriors, who advanced 12 individuals to the sectional. Maurice Wilburn prevailed in the final at 182 pounds in guiding Crete-Monee (134) to a fifth-place finish.

Class 2A T.F. North Individual Regional: Mark Zimmerman (106), Will Jones (120), Josh Harvey (126) and Tremane Holt (285) garnered championships in propelling Evergreen Park (154) to its first regional crown since 1996. Runner-up Marian Catholic (146) produced winners in Jake Domke (138), Jose Champagne (152), Addison Klausner (160) and Justin Avant (220). Morgan Park’s DaVante Williams (113) and Jaleel Hampton (145) rounded out the list of area titlists.

Class 1A Coal City Individual Regional: Ag. Science teammates Carlton Brown (120) and Alexander Velasquez (182) advanced to the sectional round after placing second in their respective weight classes. The Cyclones totaled 71 points in placing fifth. Plano (223.5) took first place in the nine-team meet.

Class 1A Peotone Individual Regional: Lucas Miedema (132) won the title in leading Illiana Christian (128.5) to a second-place finish behind Peotone (235) in the eight-team invitational. Tyler Bosman (170), Collin Templeman (195) and Alex DeYoung (285) added second-place showings for the Vikings, who advanced nine wrestlers to the sectional round.

Boys Swimming

SouthWest Suburban Red Meet: Kyle Fitzgerald was first in four events — including the 100-yard freestyle (47.43 seconds) and 200 freestyle (1 minute, 44.90 seconds) — in guiding Andrew (311) to top honors in the seven-team meet. Fitzgerald also helped the Thunderbolts prevail in the 200 free relay (1:28.79) and 400 free relay (3:13.45). Evan Surma was the standout for runner-up and host Lincoln-Way North (276.5), finishing ahead of the pack in the 100 backstroke (55.54) and 200 individual medley (2:04.18). In addition, Surma sparked the Phoenix to a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:42.30). Other winners included Lincoln-Way West teammates Kyle Karpluk in the 100 butterfly (55.15) and Charlie Pavlak in diving (359.15 points). Lincoln-Way Central (201) was third in the team standings, followed by Lincoln-Way West (198), Bradley (167.5) and Thornton co-op (72).

Boys Indoor Track & Field

Thornwood Invitational: Thornwood won six of 17 events in the five-team, nonscoring meet. Individual winners for the Thunderbirds included Antwon West in the 60-yard low hurdles (7.96 seconds), Dwight Johnson in the 300 dash (33.31) and Matthew King in the 2-mile run (11 minutes, 9.88 seconds). Thornwood also prevailed in the 880 relay (1:40.84) and mile relay (3:54.82). St. Rita’s Terrance Roberts was tops in the shot put (42 feet, 10¼ inches).

Men’s Basketball

St. Xavier 94, Judson 43: Brad Karp recorded 26 points and six rebounds to show the way for visiting St. Xavier (23-2, 13-2). Josh Mawhorr chipped in 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Lewis 94, William Jewel 73: Julian Lewis posted 21 points and seven rebounds to power host Lewis (18-3, 10-3) in the Great Lakes Valley. Capel Henshaw tacked on 16 points for the Flyers and Jeff Jarosz (6 assists) scored 11.

Trinity Christian 96, Trinity International 81: Jake VanDenBerg poured in 24 points and snagged 10 rebounds to steer host Trinity Christian (7-18, 4-10) in the CCAC. The Trolls also received 19 points from Jared Jones, 17 from Joe Hehir and 12 from Ezekiel Odonkor.

St. Francis 90, Purdue-North Central 78: Chris Miller put up 34 points to pace visiting St. Francis (12-13, 9-6) in the CCAC. Edvinas Presniakovas added 13 points and six assists for the Saints.

Joliet Junior College 80, Triton 72: Deiondre Cunningham’s 28 points spurred host Joliet Junior College (18-8, 8-2). Zoran Aresnovic tacked on 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Wolves in Region IV.

Men’s Indoor Track & Field

Indianapolis Relay Open: Lewis’ Adam Barr set an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw (59-3¼), where he finished second. Matt Jemilo added a victory in the 600-meter run (1:20.64) for the Flyers and Brock Massie took second in the triple jump (46-5).

Men’s Volleyball

St. Xavier 25-25-28, Siena Heights 20-12-26: Moises Lopez distributed 37 assists and Justin Cousin drilled 12 kills to power visiting St. Xavier (1-8, 1-2) in the Great Lakes Division of the Mid-America Men’s Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference.

Women’s Basketball

St. Xavier 90, Judson 56: Morgan Stuut registered 24 points and seven rebounds to carry visiting St. Xavier (22-4, 12-2) in the CCAC.

Lewis 86, William Jewell 75: Jess Reinhart was 10-of-11 from the field and finished with 27 points to spark host Lewis (18-3, 12-1) in the Great Lakes Valley. Jamie Johnson (21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and Mariyah Brawner-Henley (19 points, 9 rebounds) also starred for the Flyers.

Trinity Christian 79, Trinity International 52: Brooke Bambrick (11 rebounds) and Erynn Schuh (8 rebounds) tossed in 15 points each for host Trinity Christian (7-18, 3-11) in the CCAC.

Women’s Indoor Track & Field

Indianapolis Relay Open: Lewis established NCAA provisional standards in 12 events. Amber Cook was among the standouts for the Flyers, setting provisional marks in winning the high jump (5-5¼) and triple jump (37-10¾).
