Gregg Tengerstrom probably isn’t alone in his feelings on this Chicago winter — he’s ready to replace the snowbanks, high winds and frigid temperatures with green grass, humidity in the air and the sun in the sky.

For now, though, Tengerstrom has a more than worthy backup: The Tinley Park Golf Expo runs Friday through Sunday at the Tinley Park Convention Center, 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue.

“I’ve got some cabin fever, but we have got a lot of things to do and offer for golf fans,” Tengerstrom, owner of the Expo, said with a laugh.

“It is bigger and better than the last two years. We have expanded with exhibitors, and it is a good time to get out and absolutely forget about all that snow.”

The third annual Expo opens its doors Friday at noon with more than 80 exhibits, including local courses and resorts, with equipment deals offered as well.

For a more hands-on experience, long drive and long putt contests will be offered with radio personality Steve Kashul taking part in the long putt contest.

Tengerstrom added that drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges from Taylor Made, Titleist, Cleveland, Ping, Mizuno and other manufacturers will have demos available for fans to try out any equipment.

“We strive to be the most attendee-friendly golf show in the Chicago area with great deals on equipment, hourly giveaways and excellent hands-on opportunities with products,” said Tengerstrom, who also is the PGA professional at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park.

In looking to improve on the Expo’s first two years, Tengerstrom identified the increased variety as a huge selling point for the third go-around.

“With the equipment deals, courses and resorts and instructional demos, you can’t focus on just one thing,” he said.

“We try to get all three things, try to provide something different with bargains on bags and equipment and getting a look at some new courses. It’s easy to get to, and it’s a good place to go for golf fans,” he added.

Meanwhile, there’s another event this weekend aimed at warmer times ahead: the Fishing & Outdoor Show will be held Saturday and Sunday at Tinley Park High School,
6111 W. 175th St.

The fishing and outdoor show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and will feature fishing and outdoor gear demonstration as well as vendors offering products for sale.

The show, in its 21st year, is organized by the Tinley Park High School Athletic Association.

Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for children ages 7 through 13 and free for children under 7. More information is at
