Boys Basketball: Sandburg pulls past Joliet Central

Host Sandburg broke open a tight SouthWest Suburban Blue game in the fourth quarter on the strength of a 20-8 surge, fueled by Niko Kogionis and Niko Cahue.
The Eagles (8-12, 4-5) and the Steelmen (13-8, 5-4) were tied at 35 before Kogionis buried a three-pointer at the 4:49 mark of the fourth quarter, giving Sandburg a lead it would not relinquish. Kogionis and Cahue scored eight points apiece during the scoring outburst over the last four minutes of the period.
Cahue led all scorers with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Kogionis added 14 points. Jaylen McGee came off the bench to lead Joliet Central with 11 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Joliet Central shot 5-of-24 in the first half, yet still led 18-16 at halftime. The Eagles finished 15-of-33 from the field and 20-of-25 from the free-throw line.
