Boys Basketball: St. Rita hits triple digits in routing St. Francis de Sales

Updated: March 10, 2014 6:29AM

THE SKINNY

Beginning a stretch of seven games in 14 days, St. Rita (12-6, 7-1) cruised to a Catholic League South road win. St. Francis de Sales coach Bob Oderwald stepped down in December while seven players quit the team in January.

TURNING POINT

St. Rita raced to a 20-0 lead, highlighted by a Dominique Matthews (22 points, 10 rebounds) to Charles Matthews (12 points) alley-oop dunk. The Mustangs enjoyed a commanding 27-5 lead through one quarter.

THE STAR

St. Rita’s Victor Law finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, one of five double-digit scorers for the Mustangs.

BY THE NUMBERS

The 100-point game is believed to be the first in program history for St. Rita. Brandon McRoy had 14 points and Armani Chaney 12 for the Mustangs. Tyler Streeter (22 points) and Derrick Dawson (16) led St. Francis de Sales (3-16, 1-8). The Pioneers shot 8-of-37 from three-point range.

QUOTABLE

“Early in the season we were out of town (a lot), back and forth almost like a college schedule, and it’s hard for high school kids to prepare for that. Now that we’re settled in, things are really rolling our way. A win like this, it’s got to be good going into our next game. The team is at an all-time high right now.” — Law
