If regional scores are an indicator, the area probably is going to send a skimpy amount of athletes to the Feb. 21 state meet. Regional survivors from the area head to the Hinsdale Central Sectional at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Shepard sophomore Skylor Hilger won the Lincoln-Way Regional with a 36.250. Last year, the lowest qualifying score was 36.125. Hilger qualified for state last year with a 37.550 in sectional action but didn’t compete because of an illness.
Mallory Winter (34.8750) and Maggie Schultz (34.800) are a pair of Lincoln-Way co-op sophomores who need to improve in sectionals for a state bid. Lockport’s Kacie Kinney had a 34.625 at the Neuqua Valley Regional and also is on the cusp.
Lincoln-Way’s Shelby Wiktor is in contention for a shot at the beam with a 9.025 showing in the regionals. Last year, a 9.0 was the lowest state qualifying score.
Lincoln-Way’s team score of 138.500 was good enough to win a regional but the lowest qualifying mark for making it to state out of sectionals in 2013 was 142.450.
