Boys Basketball: St. Rita tops De La Salle

The Mustangs outscored the Meteors 18-8 in the third quarter, led by Victor Law’s 6 points to earn the road Catholic League victory.
Dominique Matthews hit a jumper and was fouled as time expired in the first half, putting the senior to the line to tie the game. Matthews converted the free throw, sending the teams to the locker room tied at 29.
Matthews led all scorers with 25 points, including 9-for-9 from the line. Charles Matthews scored 14 points with 8 rebounds and 4 assists, and Victor Law scored 9 points and collected 6 rebounds. Junior Brandon Hutton led De La Salle (9-10, 6-5) with 15 points and Karl Harris scored 9.
BY THE NUMBERS
Both teams saw plenty of action from the line but neither shot it tremendously well. St. Rita (13-6, 8-1) shot 67 percent (16-of-24), while the Meteors made just 58 percent of their attempts (19-of-33).
