Trinity 69, Marist 46: Annie McKenna provided 25 points to pace visiting Trinity (22-5). Marist fell to 11-15.
Leyden Sectional: Argo (4,763) was 11th and De La Salle (4,110) 12th at Brunswick Zone in River Grove. Leyden (6,032) won the team crown and also produced the top individual in Reba Hall, whose 1,411 series included a 300 game.
Class 1A Plano Individual Sectional: Amer Shalabi, of Ag. Science, qualified for the state tournament by pinning Walther Christian’s Shawn Swiderek in the third-place match at 138 pounds.
Class 2A Pontiac Individual Sectional: Lincoln-Way West’s Javier Montalvo (35-6) won the crown at 170 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Sycamore’s Austin Armstrong. Montalvo was among six state qualifiers for the Warriors, who produced a runner-up in Kyle Rodriguez (145) and a third-place winner in Kyle Ruettiger (126). Tom Buell (106), Noah Keefe (132), Amier Khamis (138) and Matt Ryan (152) added fourth-place showings for Lincoln-Way West. Brandon Hannigan, of Crete-Monee, advanced to the state level after placing fourth at 170 pounds.
Homewood-Flossmoor Invitational: Joey Cifelli (498.70) won the title in leading Marian Catholic (20 points) to a second-place finish behind Neuqua Valley (25). Rockford Christian Life (17) was third, followed by Fenwick (16) and Fremd and Oak Forest (14 each) in the 12-team meet. The Bengals were led by Joe O’Callaghan (311.10), who came in fifth, one spot ahead of Lincoln-Way West’s Charlie Pavlak (308.45).
Boys Indoor Track & Field
Bloom Invitational: Jonah Wiley won the 55-meter hurdles (8.03 seconds) and long jump (23 feet) in leading Bloom (91.5) to first place in the 10-team meet. The Blazing Trojans also received victories from James Harriel in the 400 dash (52.38) and Malik Jenkins in the triple jump (44 feet, 10 inches). Crete-Monee prevailed in three events, including the 800 relay (1 minute, 41.19 seconds) and mile relay (3:41.05). Providence’s Michael Monroe was tops in the high jump (6-8) and Shepard’s Josh Maier took first in the mile run (4:47.32). Bartlett (81) was second in the team standings, with the next four places filled by Rockford Jefferson (78), Harlem (57.5), Crete-Monee (57) and Shepard (53).
Proviso East Invitational: Homewood-Flossmoor’s five wins were the most in the nine-team meet. Matt Anyiwo secured first place in the 400 meters (51.39) for the Vikings, whose remaining winners included Christian Hoover in the 800 (2:03.98), Jordan Culpepper in the long jump (20-7) and Chris Young in the triple jump (42-8½).
Thornwood Invitational: Thornwood won nine of 17 events in the five-team, non-scoring meet. Khalil Lightbourne was among the standouts for the Thunderbirds, capturing first place in the mile run (4:57.50) and 2-mile run (10:55.53). His teammate, Eric Maymon, starred in the field events, topping the competition in the pole vault (12-6) and triple jump (40-10½). Lockport won five events, including the 2-mile relay (8:59). Cody Andrus added a victory in the 60-yard high hurdles (7.91) for the Porters and Will Giroux prevailed in the 600 run (1:20.38). Eisenhower high jumper Ishmil Mitchell 5-10) and Leo shot putter Terron Bell (47-11) also claimed victories.
South Suburban 72, Carl Sandburg 57: Antonio Levy poured in 36 points and grabbed six rebounds to power host South Suburban (22-5).
Drury 56, Lewis 53: Kyle Nelson posted 14 points and seven rebounds to lead visiting Lewis (19-4, 11-4) in the Great Lakes Valley.
Cardinal Stritch 75, Trinity Christian 74 (OT): Garrett Borgrud’s layup with 25 seconds remaining lifted visiting Cardinal Stritch (25-3, 17-0) in the CCAC North. Jared Jones led Trinity Christian (9-19, 5-12) with 22 points. Jake VanDenBerg tacked on 16 points and eight rebounds for the Trolls, while Ezekiel Odonkor had 14 points and six rebounds.
St. Francis 75, Purdue-Calumet 62: Chris Miller’s 18 points led a balanced attack for host St. Francis (14-13, 11-6) in the CCAC South. Mark Peters (8 rebounds) added 17 points for the Saints, Andrew Lerg netted 15 and Brian Edwards put in 10.
St. Xavier 80, Trinity International 72: Brad Karp had 32 points and nine rebounds to lead visiting St. Xavier (24-4, 14-3) in the CCAC North.
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Victor Tarin won the GLVC Freshman of the Year Award in guiding Lewis (472) to fourth place in Crawfordsville, Ind. Drury (838) captured top honors in the seven-team field. Tarin set a school record with an NCAA B cut time in the 100-yard freestyle (45.33). He also helped the Flyers established similar marks in the 400 free relay (3:04.37), joining Brett Busch, Bryant Jacobs and Aidan Brennan. Zach Ballon was another standout for Lewis, establishing a school standard in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.02).
South Dakota State 8, St. Francis 1: Lucas Randall and Anders Sandberg posted a win at No. 3 doubles for host St. Francis (2-2).
Men’s Indoor Track & Field
Chicagoland Championships: Adam Barr won the weight throw (59-0) and Matt Jemilo finished ahead of the pack in the 800-meter run (1:52.81) as Lewis (99) finished second behind host North Central (159.5) in the 17-team field. Brian Corcoran prevailed in the 1,000 meters (15:07.81) in pacing St. Xavier (37) to a sixth-place showing. Trinity Christian (12) was 13th, the Trolls producing the 5,000-meter champion in Andy Reidsma (15:07.81).
Lewis 25-20-25-25, Ohio State 22-25-22-16: Greg Petty compiled 15 kills and seven digs for visiting Lewis (9-3, 1-1) in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. BJ Boldog dished out 38 assists for the Flyers and Geoff Powell (8 digs) had 14 kills.
Carthage 25-25-25, St. Xavier 14-21-13: Sam Kull had seven kills and Moises Lopez totaled 19 assists to pace visiting St. Xavier (1-10). Sean Barry tacked on six kills for the Cougars and Justin Cousin contributed eight digs.
Drury 89, Lewis 70: Mariyah Brawner-Henley posted team highs with 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead visiting Lewis (19-4, 13-2) in the Great Lakes Valley. Jamie Johnson netted 16 points for the Flyers and Jess Reinhart (8 rebounds) had 14.
Cardinal Stritch 84, Trinity Christian 62: Brooke Bambrick (6 rebounds) and Holly Boetsma (5 rebounds) put in 17 points apiece for host Trinity Christian (7-20, 3-13) in the CCAC North. Caitlin Cody (11 points) and Erynn Schuh (9 points, 12 rebounds) also contributed for the Trolls.
Purdue-Calumet 67, St. Francis 65: Katie Gonnering’s 28 points and 10 rebounds keyed host St. Francis (6-22, 4-11) in the CCAC South. Leah Avery added 12 points for the Saints and Angelica Osusky put in 10.
St. Xavier 94, Trinity International 50: Morgan Stuut totaled 22 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to steer visiting St. Xavier (24-4, 14-2) in the CCAC North. Suzie Broski chipped in 12 points for the Cougars.
Lewis 9, Malone 0: Ana Banic (No. 3) and Megan Nguyen (No. 4) won their respective singles matches and also teamed for a victory at No. 2 doubles to aid visiting Lewis (3-1).
Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Lewis (479) took fourth in the seven-team meet won by Drury (1,011) in Crawfordsville, Ind. Shannon Sullivan was among the stars for the Flyers, posting NCAA B cut times in the 100 free (52.59) and as part of the foursome in the 400 free relay (3:31.46), which also featured Brittany Kamper, Courtney Duy and Cindy Jezuit.
