The individual qualifiers from the Southland will bring plenty of experience to the state meet, which begins Friday at Cherry Bowl in Rockford.
Sandburg’s Jessica Colson (2nd), Evergreen Park’s Sarah Klawitter (3rd), Reavis’ Ashley Kouba (4th), Lincoln-Way Central’s Jamie Sexauer (7th) and T.F. South’s Amber Montejano (8th) all placed in the top eight at Saturday’s Morgan Park Sectional to advance to state.
Sexauer will be the only first-timer among the group.
Klawitter and Kouba will each make their return after qualifying as sophomores but missing out last year.
“It feels awesome to be going back my senior year,” Klawitter said. “Knowing (Saturday) could be my last day as a high school bower, I just wanted to give it my best shot and I made it.”
Kouba finished 54th in 2012.
Colson will make her third straight trip to state after going with the Eagles as a team the last two seasons. Montejano and T.F. South advanced as a team last year.
