St. Joseph shook off a slow start to advance to the semifinals of the championship bracket of the Catholic League tournament by beating Providence 60-45.
Down 16-13 after one quarter, St. Joseph (20-4) shut down the Celtics (11-12) in the second quarter and never looked back.
“I didn’t like the tempo,” St. Joseph coach Gene Pingatore said. “We had to pick them apart little by little.”
Junior guards Joffery Brown and Glynn Watson each scored 13 points in the win. Junior guard Jordan Ash added 12 points. Brown added six rebounds and five assists.
Providence was paced by junior forward Miles Boykin, who scored a game-high 18 points to go with six rebounds. Junior guard Jack Brody finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, and junior center Nate Vejvoda had 10 points.
