High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Feb. 20, 2014

Girls Basketball

Class 3A Morris Regional

Joliet Catholic 50, Providence 30: Nicole Ekhomu scored 20 points to guide Joliet Catholic (24-2) in the championship. Alyssa Jurges chalked up 16 points for Providence (18-13).

Class 4A Lincoln-Way North Regional

Lincoln-Way East 50, Lincoln-Way North 22: Kara Krolicki had 14 points and Claire McMahon 11 to spark Lincoln-Way East (22-5) in the championship. Dana O’Grady and Jill Connolly added 10 points each for the Griffins. Lanie Hicks had eight points for Lincoln-Way North (23-6).

Boys Indoor Track & Field

Lincoln-Way Central dual: Cody Andrus won the 55-meter hurdles (8 seconds) and 200-meter dash (24.3 seconds) as Lockport prevailed in eight of 12 events in the nonscoring meet between SouthWest Suburban teams. Other winners for the Porters included Jared Bitters in the 800 (2 minutes, 13.8 seconds) and Carl Strom in the shot put (42 feet, 3 inches). Lincoln-Way Central’s Ben Zibricky won the mile run (4:43.7) and Ethan Blatti was tops in the pole vault (12-6).

Men’s Basketball

Lewis 74, Illinois-Springfield 66: Ryan Jackson had 26 points for host Lewis (20-4, 12-4) in the Great Lakes Valley. David Niggins and Kyle Nelson tacked on 12 points each for the Flyers.

Men’s Volleyball

Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 25-25-22-18-15, Lewis 22-23-25-25-12: BJ Boldog had 53 assists and Geoff Powell registered 24 kills to lead visiting Lewis (9-4, 1-2) in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.

Women’s Basketball

Lewis 82, Illinois-Springfield 77 (OT): Jess Reinhart scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for host Lewis (20-4, 14-2) in the Great Lakes Valley. Mariyah Brawner-Henley (13 rebounds) and Jamie Johnson (6 assists, 5 rebounds) added 18 points apiece for the Flyers.
