Girls Bowling Note

Updated: March 25, 2014 6:22AM

Reavis’ Ashley Kouba and Lemont’s Kyra Udziela both advanced to the second day of the state meet and took different things away from the experience at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford.

For Kouba, a senior, it was one more chance to bowl among the best in the state. She finished 41st with 2,458 pins over 12 games (205 average). It was her third time at state after finishing 54th her sophomore year and competing with her team as a freshman.

“It was incredible,” she said. “I couldn’t think of a better way to finish my high school career. Words can’t describe how good it felt to make it back and make it to the second day. I kept a 200-plus average for the whole weekend, which was my goal.”

Udziela, a junior who was 28th last season, finished 52nd (2,403, 200 average) and will take a ton of experience into her senior year.

“I threw a lot of great balls and the pins weren’t falling,” she said. “Everyone has those days and unfortunately these were just my days to see a lot of 10-pins. Hopefully, next year will be my year.”
