Bloom 64, Kankakee 53

THE SKINNY

Bloom’s starting backcourt of Zerell Jackson and Dalvin Echols didn’t wait long to put its stamp on Senior Night. The duo combined for 10 first-quarter points and four assists as the Blazing Trojans built a lead and never trailed in their Southland victory.

TURNING POINT

Bloom (17-8, 9-1) amped up its defensive pressure and turned Kankakee (6-20, 0-10) over for a few easy transition buckets during an 8-0 run in the second quarter.

THE STAR

Jared Johnson sliced the middle of Kankakee’s zone defense. He converted five straight field goals in the first half and totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

BY THE NUMBERS

Jackson finished with 13 points and Echols added eight for Bloom. James Coleman, the Blazing Trojans’ fourth senior in the lineup, netted 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sammie Hines (14 points) and Joseph Jordan (13) led Kankakee.

QUOTABLE

“I was just having a lot of fun ... it was Senior Night. It really sunk in at the end of the game, knowing that this is one of my last times playing with these guys.” — Jackson
