Boys Basketball: Beecher ousted by Reed-Custer

Reed-Custer 92, Beecher 63

THE SKINNY

Reed-Custer’s frenetic pace was too much for Beecher to handle as the Comets claimed the Class 2A Wilmington Regional title. The Comets (18-9) advance to the Westville Sectional, where they’ll play St. Joseph-Ogden in a semifinal.

TURNING POINT

The Comets led the Bobcats (6-20) 30-20 with four minutes to play in the second quarter before going on a 13-4 run to finish the half ahead 43-24. Beecher never recovered. The Comets stretched their lead to 70-36 in the third quarter.

THE STAR

Travis Schoonover led five Comets in double figures with 22 points.

BY THE NUMBERS

Reed-Custer forced the Bobcats into 35 turnovers.

QUOTABLE

“We’re trying to create as many possessions as we can. We’re trying to get up as many shots as we can, and I think we did a decent job of that. The only thing that slowed us down is our kids got a little handsy and committed a few too many fouls.” — Reed-Custer coach Mark Porter
