Boys Basketball: Carver knocks out Illiana Christian

THE SKINNY

Third-seeded Illiana Christian shot 10-of-14 from the free-throw line in the first half and led the top-seeded host 43-37 at halftime of the Class 2A regional final. The Challengers fought back in the second half, going on a 10-4 surge over the game’s final 2:34 to claim the regional championship.

TURNING POINT

Carver ignited the crowd with a 13-2 run as its defensive intensity forced four turnovers early in the third quarter. Carver led 64-55 heading in the final quarter. Carver guard Charles Johnson was hit with his fourth foul in the third quarter with 4:06 remaining, but his team was able to pick up the slack.

THE STAR

Christopher Evans led the Challengers with 23 points, including 12 in the third quarter.

BY THE NUMBERS

Carver outrebounded Illiana 37-28 and forced 22 turnovers.
