Boys Indoor Track & Field
Bloom Invitational: Jonah Wiley posted victories in the 55-meter hurdles (7.75 seconds) and long jump (22 feet, 7½ inches) as Bloom (87.5) captured first place in the 14-team field. Daylen Hubbard added a win in the 200-meter dash (24.13) for the Blazing Trojans and Derrick Weathersby was tops in the 800 run (2 minutes, 8.62 seconds). Kevin Vroegh, of Illiana Christian, finished ahead of the pack in the mile run (4:48.92). The Vikings also produced winners in Nick Fiene in the 2-mile run (10:37.82) and Bryan Perschbocher in the high jump (6-2). T.F. North’s Adam Kessler won the shot put (46-6) and Thornridge recorded to best time in the 800 relay (1:39.43). Rockford Jefferson (69) was second in the team standings, followed by T.F. North (64), Illiana (56) and Rockford Auburn (38).
Thornwood Invitational: Cavion Clanton and Tifonte Hunt each placed first in three events as Thornton (51) finished fourth out of 15 teams at Olivet Nazarene. Clanton prevailed in the 55 dash (6.55) and Hunt won the 55 hurdles (7.44). The two also helped the Wildcats win the 800 relay (1:30.88), along with Jauan Wesley and Martise Craig. Homewood-Flossmoor (30) took eighth, winning three events, including the 2-mile relay (8:09.18). The Vikings’ individual winners were Matt Anyiwo in the 400 (50.56) and Kevin Anderson in the 1,000 meters (2.41). Lake Park (104) was the team champion.
Girls Indoor Track & Field
Dolphin Indoor Classic: Jayla Stewart won the 55-meter hurdles (8.21) and 200 (25.73) in leading Homewood-Flossmoor (103) to a second-place finish at Lewis. The Vikings also received victories from Antoinette Broughton in the 55 dash (7.44) and Rachel Wilson in the shot put (34-6-¼). Young (125) won the team title, Loyola (80) took third and Evanston (52) came in fourth.
St. Xavier 85, Cardinal Stritch 74: Jack Krieger scored 25 points to guide visiting St. Xavier (29-4) over the top-ranked team and reigning national champion in NAIA Division II. Brad Karp added 19 points for the Cougars and Michael Simpson had 17.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Isaac Jean-Paul set school and conference records in winning the high jump (7-1½) as Lewis (148) topped the 12-team field for its first championship since 2005. Lewis’ also produced winners in Kevin Dorenkamper in the 60-meter hurdles (8.20) and Matt Jemilo in the 800-meter run (1:52.92), both of whom also broke GLVC marks. Missouri S&T (111) was second in the meet held in Indianapolis.
Lewis 25-25-25, Lindenwood 10-22-19: BJ Boldog passed out 44 assists and Geoff Powell drilled 18 kills to set the tone for visiting Lewis (12-4, 4-2). Greg Petty added 16 kills for the Flyers in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Lewis (209) bested runner-up and host Indianapolis (120) for top honors among the 10 scoring teams. The Flyers were led by Amanda Farrough, who finished ahead of the pack in the mile run (5:03.17) and 3,000-meter run (10:12.55).
