Girls Basketball

Class 4A Championship

Young 60, Rolling Meadows 44: Kiara Lewis netted 20 points to lead Young (33-3) at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Class 3A Third Place

Quincy Notre Dame 64, Burlington Central 40: Kristen Gengenbacher scored 22 points and Mary Beth Hugenberg (6 rebounds) added 19 to propel Quincy Notre Dame (30-4) at Redbird Arena. Sam Pryor contributed 10 points and seven rebounds for Burlington Central (28-6).

Boys Indoor Track & Field

Thornwood Invitational: Wins by Dwight Johnson in the 300-yard dash (33.46 seconds) and Eric Maymon in the pole vault (12 feet) powered Thornwood (105 points) to the top spot in the 12-team meet. Crete-Monee led area squads with four victories, including the 880 relay (1 minute, 38.28 seconds) and mile relay (3:43.38). The Warriors also received wins from Elijah Douglas in the 60 high hurdles (7.78) and Quentin Nash in the 440 dash (53.21). Homewood-Flossmoor’s Matt Anyiwo had to leading time in the 600 run (1:16.72) and teammate Kevin Anderson crossed the finish line first in the 880 (2:06.43). Joliet West (81) was second in the team standings, with Crete-Monee (67), H-F (59) and Lockport (54) rounding out the top five.

Champaign Centennial Invitational: Hillcrest’s Luther Newburn took second in the Class B high jump (5-10) and teammate Darren Arzu was runner-up in the Class C 60-meter hurdles (9.57) in the nonscoring meet.

Coed Indoor Track & Field

Lincoln-Way Central Invitational: Cole Senesac won the high jump (5-10) and triple jump (41-4¼) in helping Lincoln-Way Central secure first place in seven of 15 events in the nonscoring meet. Lincoln-Way North’s Julian Hylton was another standout, posting victories in the 55-meter dash (6.20) and 200 dash (23.10). Marist was the top team on the girls side, posting wins in seven events. Kelly Carollo prevailed in the pole vault (9 feet) and high jump (4-10.01) for the RedHawks, while Alexis Pitts won the 55 (7.0) and 200 (27.70). Remaining winners included Lincoln-Way North’s Kaira Ballard in the 400 (1:04.70) in the 400 and Lincoln-Way Central’s J.J. Robinson in the 800 (2:30.10).

Girls Indoor Track & Field

Bloom Invitational: Gina Narcisi was first in the mile run (5:53.07) and also ran on the winning foursome in the 2-mile relay (10:27.77) as Bloom (102) captured the crown among the 10 scoring squads. Thornton (84) finished second thanks in part to Mitzi Terry, who led the field in the long jump (16-7½). Ninaa Edwards and Dasia Evans each won two events to ignite fourth-place Rich South (78). Edwards was first in the 55-meter hurdles (8.98) and triple jump (36-8), while Evans garnered top honors in the 400 (1:02.93) and high jump (5-2).

College Baseball

Lewis 8, Tiffin 7: Austin Mastela singled home Jake Murray in the bottom of the 10th to spark Lewis (6-6) in Winter Haven, Fla. Ben Albano (3-for-5) added a two-run single and three RBI for the Flyers.

Jefferson 3-5, Joliet Junior College 0-9: Colton Trager (2-for-2, HR) and Darrell Collins (2-for-3, double) each had three RBI for visiting Joliet Junior College (1-3) in the nightcap. Kevin Ruff (1-0) didn’t allow an earned run over six innings. He surrendered six hits and struck out 10. Steve Wittkamp had two hits for Joliet Junior College in the opener.

Warner Invitational

St. Francis 4, Warner 0: Chris Blatti (3-2) allowed five hits in pitching a complete game for St. Francis (9-12) in Lake Wales, Fla. The Saints scored all of their runs in the top of the fourth, with run-scoring singles by Matt Scott and Brad Porter.

Bethel 10, St. Francis 4: Joe Ruge (3-for-4) had three RBI and David Kuhne (3-for-4) scored twice for St. Francis in its first game of the day.

Men’s Indoor Track & Field

NAIA National Championships: St. Francis teammates Dylan Reyes and Mike Blaszczyk earned All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run in Geneva. Reyes (14:37.70) was second and Blaszczyk (14:43.57) eighth in the race won by Eastern Oregon’s D.J. Flores (14:37.53). As a team, St. Francis (9) was 26th. Indiana Tech (82) won the title.

Men’s Volleyball

Lourdes 25-19-25-25, St. Xavier 21-25-18-21: Moises Lopez dished out 38 assists and J.T. O’Connell had 12 kills to lead host St. Xavier (3-12, 3-4). Sam Kull added 10 kills for the Cougars in the Great Lakes Division of the Mid-America Men’s Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference.

College Softball

Ave Maria 3, St. Francis 2: Kiley Southall and Natalie Ward provided runs for St. Francis (3-7) in its second game of the day in Clermont, Fla. Caitlyn Balandis (2-3) tossed a five-hitter and struck out nine for the Saints.

Spring Arbor 11, St. Francis 0: Lexi Southall went 2-for-3 to lead St. Francis in the five-inning contest.

Women’s Indoor Track & Field

NAIA National Championships: St. Francis’ Chelsea Rimington (46-5½) and LaChrissa Safforld (45-5) captured All-American honors after finishing fifth and seventh, respectively in the shot put. Fellow Saint Brooke Johnson also garnered All-America accolades, placing eighth in the mile run (5:00.52). St. Francis (7) was 27th in the team standings. Oklahoma Baptist (133) was the top squad.
