Boys Water Polo

Homewood-Flossmoor 20, Hinsdale Central 6: Broc Thompson scored seven goals and Haden Santefort netted six to propel host Homewood-Flossmoor (1-0). Jakobi McClellan tacked on 15 saves for the Vikings.

Lincoln-Way North 15, Shepard 4: Cole Claypool recorded five goals and Nate Pakosz passed out five assists to spark visiting Lincoln-Way North in the season opener for both teams. Evan Surma added four assists for the Phoenix and Shamus Shields made 12 saves.

Girls Water Polo

Naperville Central 15, Marian Catholic 5: Grace Van Beest posted three goals to lead visiting Marian Catholic (1-1).

College Baseball

St. Xavier 11, Ave Maria 0: Chris Klein (4-for-5, 2 runs) had four RBI and Jim Augle (3-for-4, 2 RBI) scored three runs to boost St. Xavier (2-7) in Babson Park, Fla. Cougars pitcher Jesse Lopez went the distance in the seven-inning game, allowing five hits and striking out six.

San Jacinto 7, South Suburban 4: Jake Hickey doubled and knocked in three runs to show the way for visiting South Suburban (1-4). Hickey also had an RBI in the Bulldogs’ first game of the day, a 10-2 loss to host Coastal Bend.

Joliet Junior College 12-5, Volunteer State 4-5: Ron Sessler was 3-for-4 with six RBI to lead Joliet Junior College (2-6) in Game 1. Josh Jimenez (1-1) struck out eight over six innings for the Wolves in Gallatin, Texas. Alex Bebar contributed two doubles and an RBI for the Wolves in the eight-inning nightcap.

RussMatt Invitational

Clarke 5-2, Trinity Christian 0-3: Steve Brewer’s three-run homer in the bottom of the first enabled Trinity Christian (3-5) to gain a split in Leesburg, Fla. Jimmy Hinkleman recorded the victory and Brad Kopale pitched the final inning for the save.

Men’s Golf

Christian Brothers Spring Invitational: Ryan Frederick and Alex Thode tied for fourth (147) as Lewis (607) finished fifth out of 11 teams in Memphis. Frederick shot a 1-over 71 in the second round, while Frederick carded a 76. Centenary (584) won the title behind medalist Jamie Gibson (145).

Men’s Volleyball

St. Xavier 25-25-25, Cincinnati Christian 14-18-15: Moises Lopez and Jacob Siska each dished out 15 assists and Justin Cousin notched 12 kills to key host St. Xavier (4-12).

Lewis 25-25-25, Ohio State 21-21-20: Geoff Powell drilled 14 kills and BJ Boldog distributed 19 assists to lift host Lewis (13-4, 5-2). Greg Petty aided the cause for the Flyers with 12 kills in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
