Class 4A Marist Sectional
Young 72, Simeon 64: Jahlil Okafor totaled 19 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and four assists to lead Young (25-5) in the semifinal. Rodney Herenton, Erwin Henry and Paul White tacked on 16 points apiece for the Dolphins. DJ Williams had 22 points to pace Simeon (22-5) and Ed Morrow scored 18. Young plays St. Rita (21-7) in the championship at 7 p.m. Friday.
Boys Water Polo
Morgan Park 16, Kennedy 9: Christian Cooper netted seven goals and also made seven saves to power Morgan Park (1-1, 1-1) in the Public League Division II. Mike Crawley chipped in five goals for the Mustangs.
Girls Water Polo
Homewood-Flossmoor 16, Richards 1: Amber Barney had seven goals to spark host Homewood-Flossmoor in its season opener. Richards dropped to 0-2.
Hinsdale Central 16, Stagg 1: Nina Relias scored five goals and Heather DeBoer added a hat trick to propel host Hinsdale Central (2-0). Stagg fell to 1-2.
South Suburban 4, Blinn 2: Nick Kellams (1-0) pitched five innings in relief as visiting South Suburban (2-4) prevailed in 10 innings.
Columbia State 5-8, Joliet Junior College 0-12: T.J. Condon had three hits and three RBI for Joliet Junior College (3-7) in Game 2. Kevin Ruff (2-1) got the victory for the Wolves in Columbia, Tenn.
Purdue-North Central 4, St. Xavier 1: Jim Augle scored on Casey Papp’s fourth-inning single for St. Xavier (2-8) in Auburndale, Fla.
St. Ambrose 12, Trinity Christian 9: Steve Brewer went 2-for-5 with a run and three RBI to key Trinity Christian (3-6).
NCAA Division II Championships: Aidan Brennan, of Lewis, posted a time of 21.47 seconds in the preliminaries of 50-yard freestyle in Geneva, Ohio.
National Training Center Games
Ave Maria 7, Trinity Christian 4: April Lynn (2-for-4) hit a two-run single for Trinity Christian (3-4) in Clermont, Fla. Mattie McGuire added an RBI double for the Trolls.
Ave Maria 1, St. Xavier 0: Nicole Nonnemacher (3-1) allowed one unearned run and struck out six in pitching a complete game for St. Xavier (8-1).
NCAA Division II Championships: Lewis’ Montana Clasby achieved a personal best in the preliminaries of the 200 individual medley (2:07.10), where she finished 26th. Teammate Sarah Kenis (2:09.94) was 40th in the same event in Geneva, Ohio.
