Boys Basketball

Class 3A State Semifinal

Lincoln 45, Rockford Lutheran 42: Gavin Block’s three-pointer and two free throws by Joey Olden — all in the final minute — propelled Lincoln (34-2) at Peoria’s Carver Arena. Block finished with a team-high 16 points and Olden scored 10. Thomas Kopelman had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Rockford Lutheran (30-4). Nate Wieting added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Crusaders.

Class 4A State Semifinals

Young 75, Stevenson 68: Jahlil Okafor tossed in 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to show the way for Young (27-5) at Carver Arena. Paul White (6 rebounds) added 15 points for the Dolphins, Erwin Henry scored 11 and Miles Reynolds (6 rebounds) had 10. Jalen Brunson paced Stevenson (31-2) with 56 points – the most ever in a state finals game.

Benet 38, Edwardsville 33: Josh Yesufu and Collin and Pellettieri scored 10 points apiece for Benet (25-7). Shawn Roundtree’s 13 points led Edwardsville (30-3).

Baseball

Oak Forest 12, Romeoville 0: Dan Hlad (3-for-5) posted two RBI and also combined with Drew Dominik (5 innings, 6 strikeouts) on a two-hitter for Oak Forest (1-0). Kevin Johnson (4-for-5, RBI) added four runs for the Bengals at Kroc White Sox Field.

Illinois Lutheran 7, Louisville Holy Cross 2: Collin Borns went 3-for-3 with a double and four runs to steer visiting Illinois Lutheran (1-0). Jared Buzan (5 innings) struck out eight in notching the victory.

Ag. Science 11, Corliss 7: Rick Flores and Tom Gleason slammed two-run doubles for Ag. Science in its season opener.

Coach Bob Invitational

Marist 8, Phoenix Sierra Linda 6: Barrett Callaghan’s two-run single in the bottom of the third ignited a four-run outburst for Marist (4-3). Blake Bieniek and Mike Trbovic added two runs apiece for the RedHawks in their second contest of the day in New River, Ariz.

Marist 7, Boulder Creek (Ariz.) 6: Visiting Marist scored three runs in the top of the sixth to break a 4-all tie. Mike Trbovic put the RedHawks ahead with an RBI double and Ryan Kairis (2-for-4, 2 runs) capped the frame with a run-scoring single. Blake Bieniek added two RBI for the winners and Tyler Haizel scored twice.

Lemont 10, Peoria Notre Dame 4: Nick Wisz hit a two-run double and Jake Terrazas (3-for-4, 3 runs) smashed a pair of RBI singles to vault Lemont (1-0) in downstate Jacksonville. Mike Papierski (2-for-3) tacked on three runs for the Indians.

Jacksonville 11, T.F. South 0: James Macklin, Adam Locke and Tresean Hall garnered singles for T.F. South (0-1) in the six-inning game.

Softball

Seneca 10, Chicago Christian 0: Kaycee Pittman went 3-for-3 with a double for Chicago Christian (0-1) in the six-inning contest in Jacksonville.

Badminton

Homewood-Flossmoor 8, Lincoln-Way East 7: Leslie Bonthron (No. 1) and Kendall Paris (No. 2) registered singles wins for visiting Homewood-Flossmoor in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Boys Water Polo

Stagg 12, Hinsdale South 10: Alex Kunz netted four goals and Gabe Jezierski added a hat trick to lift host Stagg (4-3).

Schaumburg Invitational

Lincoln-Way West 10, Wheeling 7: Kyle Karpluk put in four goals to key Lincoln-Way West (2-0).

St. Rita 10, Young 7: Dan Sliazas posted three goals to lead St. Rita (3-7).

Girls Water Polo

Naperville Central Invitational

Mother McAuley 13, Waubonsie Valley 3: Clare Byar’s hat trick boosted Mother McAuley (6-2).

Naperville Central 13, Homewood-Flossmoor 2: Amber Barney and Megan Dunlavy provided goals for Homewood-Flossmoor (2-3).

Girls Lacrosse

Mother McAuley 17, Marist 16: Margo Vandeveld chalked up four goals and two assists for Mother McAuley.

College Baseball

South Suburban 14, Harper 2: Stephen Letz (3-for-5) belted a two-run triple and Ryan Wasso (1-1) struck out six over to guide host South Suburban (4-5). Jake Hickey (4-for-5, double) and Stefano Belmonte (2-for-5) chipped in two RBI apiece for the Bulldogs.
