Baseball

St. Rita 11, Lake View 0: Mike Costanzo struck out 14 to propel host St. Rita (12-0) in the five-inning contest. Nate Soria doubled and batted in two runs for the Mustangs.

Brother Rice 8, Hinsdale Central 3: Eric Lieser (2-for-4) had three RBI and Kevin Sullivan scored three runs to spark host Brother Rice (9-3). Ryan Kutt (3-0) allowed one run on three hits over six innings for the Crusaders.

Sandburg 11, Thornton 1: Julian Gutierrez (2-for-2) had two runs and two RBI for host Sandburg (4-2) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Lincoln-Way North 11, Stagg 1: Erik Eggert (2-for-3, 3 RBI) hit a two-run homer and D.J. Lee (3-for-4) scored three times to boost visiting Lincoln-Way North (3-1). Matt Strelczyk pitched a one-hitter and struck out six for the Phoenix in the six-inning affair. Jake Wimmer collected the hit for Stagg (2-6) and Brett Stratinsky accounted for the run.

Lemont 6, T.F. South 1: Jake Terrazas’ two-run triple keyed visiting Lemont (6-0, 2-0) in the South Suburban Blue. Brian Seymour went 3-for-3 with a run for T.F. South (4-4, 0-2).

Lincoln-Way West 5, Lockport 4: Dan Brokop’s three-run double highlighted a five-run second inning for visiting Lincoln-Way West (5-0). Luke Morgan and Zach Speaker also knocked in runs for the Warriors in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Jeremy Quade went 3-for-4 with an RBI double for Lockport (5-6).

Tinley Park 12, Hillcrest 0: Quinn Kelly went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI to lead visiting Tinley Park (2-2, 2-1) in the five-inning game. Kanon Saavedra and two relievers combined to allow two hits and strike out 10 for the Titans in the South Suburban Blue.

Rich Central 13, Rich South 3: Marcus Champman was 2-for-4 with an RBI to help host Rich Central (2-1) capture the Southland opener for both teams. Mario Jenkins had a run and an RBI for Rich South (0-4) in the five-inning game.

Shepard 4, Reavis 0: Brett Smith (5-hitter, 5 strikeouts) went the distance and pinch-hitter Kevin Carmody delivered a two-run single for visiting Shepard (4-2, 3-0) in the South Suburban Red.

Herscher 2, Beecher 1: Chase Wyatt’s first-inning groundout scored Cameron Morgan with the run for host Beecher (6-1).

Bloom 10, Rich East 0: Josh Hojnicki struck out 13 in firing a no-hitter for visiting Bloom (2-2, 1-0) in the five-inning Southland contest. Frankie Herzic (2-for-2) had three RBI for the Blazing Trojans and Eric Luther (3-for-4) added three runs. Rich East fell to 0-4, 0-1.

Lincoln-Way East 2, Thornridge 1: Joe McNulty’s RBI single and Mitch Matuszewski’s fielder’s choice grounder – both in the bottom of the seventh – made the difference for Lincoln-Way East (5-2) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Lincoln-Way Central 10, Joliet Central 0: Pat Michalak and Tony Kestel scored three runs apiece and Ryan Earll added three RBI to power visiting Lincoln-Way Central (5-2). Jason Stricklin went the distance for the Knights in the six-inning SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Evergreen Park 11, Argo 1: Joe Moran allowed one unearned run on one hit to lead host Evergreen Park (4-2, 2-0) to the six-inning win in the South Suburban Red.

Homewood-Flossmoor 7, Thornwood 1: Kendall King (2-for-4) had three RBI and Bobby Meagher (3-for-4, RBI) scored twice for Homewood-Flossmoor (3-1). Isaac Cutrara gave up three hits and struck out 11 in going the distance for the Vikings in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Timothy Christian 8, Illiana Christian 3: Hillegonds hit a two-run double to lead visiting Illiana Christian (1-5) in its the Metro Suburban opener.

Softball

Lincoln-Way North 3, Stagg 1: Jenna Trojniar and Taylor Bowman knocked in runs for host Lincoln-Way North (2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Stephanie Lorenz had the RBI for Stagg (0-4).

Evergreen Park 15, Eisenhower 0: Carolyn Roberts homered and totaled three RBI to guide host Evergreen Park (4-3, 3-1) in the five-inning South Suburban Red contest. Maddie Bojacek tossed a two-hitter and fanned nine for the Mustangs.

Marist 11, Nazareth 2: Madison Naujokas (2-for-3), Brooke Wyderski (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Bella Wilkinson (2-for-4) had two RBI apiece for host Marist (6-3-1, 2-0) in the East Suburban Catholic. Zariya Gonzalez fanned five in going the route for the RedHawks.

Reavis 10, Argo 0: Hope Stepuncik (2-for-3) doubled, homered and totaled three RBI to power visiting Reavis (4-4, 3-2) in the South Suburban Red. Ally Balandis tossed a three-hitter and fanned six for the Rams in the five-inning game.

Andrew 3, Bolingbrook 0: Hannah Thielmann (4-1) fanned seven in pitching a no-hitter for host Andrew (6-2) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Abbey Purcell led the offense with a two-run single.

Lemont 6, Oak Forest 5: Anna Smagacz (2-for-3) doubled and drove in three runs to aid visiting Lemont (5-2, 2-2) in the South Suburban Blue. Taylor Sterkowitz had two RBI for Oak Forest (7-2, 3-1) and Kylie Powers scored twice.

Lincoln-Way East 26, Thornridge 0: Jenny Van Geertry went 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI for visiting Lincoln-Way East (4-2) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Olivia Prieto (5-for-6) and Eleni Kioussis (3-for-5) each added four runs and three RBI for the Griffins in the five-inning contest.

Homewood-Flossmoor 19, Thornwood 0: Meagan Donermeyer went 5-for-5 with two runs and five RBI to vault visiting Homewood-Flossmoor (1-3). Olivia Dau (4-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Gabriella Cooke (4-for-5, 3 runs, 2 RBI) also starred for the Vikings in the five-inning game. Fantasia Ojeda went 2-for-2 to lead Thornwood (2-1).

Lincoln-Way Central 4, Joliet Central 1: Jackie Farbak (2-for-3) posted a two-run double and three RBI to lead host Lincoln-Way Central (4-2) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Sarah Mikolajczak gave up one unearned run and fanned five in tossing a complete game for the Knights.

Shepard 5, Oak Lawn 2: Heather O’Kelley went 5-for-5 with two runs to key visiting Shepard (2-2, 2-2) in the South Suburban Red. Riley McTeague (2-for-2) had both RBI for Oak Lawn (1-4, 1-2).

Sandburg 13, Thornton 1: Lauren Schultz (4-for-4) had three runs and three RBI for visiting Sandburg (6-2) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban crossover. Maddie Poole pitched a one-hitter and struck out five for the Eagles.

Beecher 2, Herscher 1: Sarah Crews gave up five hits and struck out five in going the route for host Beecher (3-2). Isabella Woolslayer and Savannah Lowe scored runs for the Bobcats.

Rich East 14, Rich Central 3: Lydia Aguirre (3-for-4) had four RBI and Cayla Brown (14 strikeouts) pitched a complete game to boost visiting Rich East (4-0, 1-0) in the Southland.

Tinley Park 12, T.F. North 0: Aubrey Palusek was the winning pitcher for host Tinley Park (4-0, 4-0) in the South Suburban Blue.

Girls Soccer

T.F. United 7, Oak Lawn 0: Monica Munoz scored six goals to propel visiting T.F. United (2-3) in the South Suburban crossover.

Marian Catholic 2, Crete-Monee 0: Goals by Renae and Elisabeth Melone guided visiting Marian Catholic (6-4). Sarah Sieracki made four saves in recording the shutout.

Mount Assisi 3, St. Benedict 1: Marty Kate Wetzel, Bridget Melody and Sarah Spencer scored for host Mount Assisi (2-4-1, 2-0) in the GCAC White.

Shepard 7, Richards 0: Kelly Evancich totaled three goals and two assists for host Shepard (4-2-1, 2-0) in the South Suburban Red.

Reavis 6, Bremen 0: Celeste Lara, Ewelina Kim and Edith Benitez scored two goals apiece to guide visiting Reavis (2-4, 1-1) in the South Suburban crossover.

Boys Volleyball

Brother Rice 29-25, St. Ignatius 27-16: Dan Hayes had 24 assists and Kevin Myren six kills to carry visiting Brother Rice (11-2) in its Catholic League Blue opener.

St. Rita 25-23-26, Mount Carmel 21-25-24: Tim Dunleavy’s 13 kills led host St. Rita (3-10) in the Catholic League Blue debut for both squads. Nick Spallina added eight kills for the Mustangs and John Regan had eight digs.

Joliet West 17-25-25, Oak Forest 25-22-22: Jeff Sprayberry racked up 17 kills to pace host Oak Forest (6-3).

Reavis 25-25, Illiana Christian 16-15: Matthew Sammon (23 assists) and Dawid Kasprzak (8 kills, 5 blocks) led visiting Reavis (4-4).

Badminton

Lincoln-Way West 14, Lincoln-Way North 1: Stephanie McDonald, Beth Heise and Hannah Sigrit were among the winners in singles and doubles for host Lincoln-Way West in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Boys Tennis

Brother Rice 3, Mount Carmel 2: James Gallagher and Jack Gorman prevailed at No. 1 doubles for Brother Rice in the Catholic League.

Lincoln-Way West 4, Bolingbrook 3: Dan Robson (No. 1) and Trevor Behm (No. 2) won their respective singles matches for visiting Lincoln-Way West in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Boys Water Polo

Shepard co-op 13, Taft 4: Jerry Zachary and Patrick Muhne scored four goals apiece for Shepard.

Lockport 8, Stagg 4: Hat tricks by Jake Jagodzinski and Matt Olinski sparked host Lockport in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Girls Water Polo

Lincoln-Way East 13, Marian Catholic 10: Aimee Schaaf scored a match-high six goals to set the pace for host Lincoln-Way East. Sophie Sesto led Marian Catholic with four goals.

Boys Track & Field

Oak Forest triangular: Luke Taccola topped the field in the shot put (52 feet, 8 inches) and discus (143-5) in leading Oak Forest (67 points) over South Suburban foes Eisenhower (64) and Oak Lawn (52). Aramis Bal added wins in the high jump (5-10) and 400-meter dash (56.5 seconds) for the Bengals.

Providence triangular: Luis Vasquez won the 110-meter high hurdles (15.28) and 300 intermediate hurdles (41.5) as Providence (119 points) topped Joliet Catholic (21) and Bishop McNamara (4). Steve Sismelich added victories in the mile run (4 minutes, 54 seconds) and 2-mile run (10:22.5) for the Celtics. Joliet Catholic’s Harry McSteen prevailed in the 400 (52.2).

College Baseball

St. Francis 6-4, Purdue-Calumet 2-3: David Kuhne went a combined 4-for-7 with three runs and three RBI in propelling St. Francis (20-14) at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.

Men’s Golf

St. Francis Spring Invitational: Co-medalists Austin Gass and Daniel Frantz carded 2-under 69s in leading St. Francis (286) to first place at Joliet’s Inwood Golf Course. Olivet Nazarene (303) was second and Elmhurst (306) third in the 10-team meet.

Men’s Tennis

St. Francis 9, Roosevelt 0: Boris Peshev, Anders Sandberg and Andres Strecher posted singles wins for host St. Francis (10-7, 2-0) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Women’s Softball

St. Xavier 15-5, Roosevelt 0-0: Nicole Nonnemacher had three RBI in the opener and pitched a complete game (3-hitter, 8 strikeouts) in the nightcap to pace visiting St. Xavier (21-3, 5-1) in the CCAC. Nonnemacher’s sister, Megan, tossed a three-hitter for the Cougars in Game 1, which lasted five innings.

St. Francis 13-9, Trinity International 0-0: Jessica Kuester (2-4) pitched a five-inning no-hitter to complete the CCAC sweep for host St. Francis (9-13, 3-3). Susan Newton ripped a two-run double and finished with three RBI to lead the offense. Caroline Roberts (2-run single) and Lexi Southall (2-run double) posted three apiece to power the Saints in the five-inning opener. Caitlyn Balandis (5-5) pitched four innings in combining with Corey Shahan on a one-hitter.
