Girls Soccer: Mother McAuley falls 1-0 to Trinity

Updated: April 10, 2014 10:46PM

THE SKINNY

Trinity’s Kaitlyn Buss missed the 2013 season because of a torn ACL. It appears she’s trying to make up for lost time. The midfielder scored the lone goal in the Blazers’ 1-0 victory over McAuley in a GCAC Red match in Melrose Park.

TURNING POINT

Trinity had plenty of chances through the first 60 minutes but simply couldn’t convert. That all changed on Buss’ goal with 17:05 to play in the second half. Buss took a pass from Monica Gomez and blasted the ball to the upper right corner of the net, past the outstretched arms of Mighty Macs’ goalie Erica Horn.

THE STAR

In addition to scoring the lone goal, Buss was dominant in the midfield, helping give her team extra opportunities on offense.

BY THE NUMBERS

The Blazers were great at staying on attack. Goalie Kathryn Sugg had to make just four saves to earn her second shutout of the year. The Blazers improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference while the Mighty Macs fell to 1-6, 1-2.

QUOTABLE

“I was anxious but I wanted to stay focused and calm. I didn’t want to rush anything. We just needed to keep cool and play the game.” — Buss, on her mentality when the game was scoreless in the second half.
