Baseball

St. Laurence 12, Richwoods 2: Mike Kornacker (2-hitter) struck out seven over four innings and also blasted a three-run homer for host St. Laurence (11-1). Mike Miller added a two-run shot for the Vikings in the five-inning game.

St. Rita 9, Richwoods 0: Mateo Zunica (3-for-4, 2 runs) and Danny Gleaves each posted two RBI for host St. Rita (15-0). Mustang pitchers C.J. Santoyo (5 innings) and Sean Jaycox combined to allow three hits and strike out nine.

St. Rita 15, Brooks 0: Nick Goldsmith clubbed a three-run homer and Matt Lenzen (5 strikeouts) tossed a no-hitter to lead host St. Rita in its first game of the day. Jake Shepski tacked on a two-run triple for the Mustangs in the five-inning contest.

Mount Carmel 7, Crown Point 6: Dave Dobrinich’s RBI single and Malik Carpenter’s two-run homer – both in the top of the seventh – rallied Mount Carmel (8-2). Dobrinich also pitched the final frame for the save.

Oak Forest 10, Lincoln-Way East 9: Joe Funkhouser hit a two-run homer, then provided the game-winning, two-run single in the top of the seventh to guide Oak Forest (8-3). Aaron Donald (2-for-3, 4 RBI) belted a two-run homer for Lincoln-Way East (6-4).

Brother Rice 23, Andrew 10: Mike Schalasky hit a two-run homer and finished with six RBI to lead visiting Brother Rice (11-3) in the six-inning game. Kevin Sullivan (4-for-4, 4 RBI) tacked on a three-run blast for the Crusaders. John McLaughlin, Jeff Szubert and Ramon Gonzalez homered for Andrew (3-6).

Lincoln-Way West 1, Immaculate Conception 0: Luke Morgan lashed an RBI single and also pitched two innings for the save to boost visiting Lincoln-Way West (9-0). Richard Yelnick scattered two hits over five innings in capturing the win.

Glenbard East 9, Lockport 6: Tyler Hair went 2-for-3 with three RBI for host Lockport (5-8) in the eight-inning game.

Ag. Science 16, Thornridge 3: Nick Oliver’s three-run homer keyed host Ag. Science (9-1) in the five-inning tilt.

Chicago Christian 14, Argo 2: Zach Frieling (3-for-3) smashed two doubles and a grand slam to lead the way for host Chicago Christian (8-6).

U-High 12, Morgan Park 10: James Davidson (3-for-5) contributed a three-run homer and four RBI to power host Morgan Park (8-3-1).

Sandburg 8, Minooka 7: Jim Roche walloped a three-run triple in the top of the sixth to put visiting Sandburg (7-3) ahead for good. Alec Martinez chipped in an RBI single one frame later as the Eagles held on after Minooka scored once in its final at-bat.

T.F. North 10, Thornton 2: Misael Morales fanned 12 in pitching a complete game for host T.F. North (3-5). Devon Mason scored three runs to pace the attack offensively for the Meteors. Armani Lewis and Billy Moore garnered RBI for Thornton (1-7).

Lincoln-Way North 8, T.F. South 5: Ben Troike and Zach Hoekstra hit RBI singles in a tie-breaking, three-run seventh inning for visiting Lincoln-Way North (6-1). Nick Pedraza tacked on a two-run homer for the Phoenix. Johnson posted an RBI double and two runs for T.F. South (4-7).

Marist 7, Stagg 4: Grant Kenny (2-for-3) had two RBI and John Carmody (2-for-3) scored two runs to pace host Marist (6-7). Ryan Kairis allowed one earned run and struck out nine in going the distance for the RedHawks. Jake Wimmer led Stagg (3-8) with two RBI.

Joliet Catholic 14, Plainfield East 8: Nick Dalesandro went 5-for-5 with two RBI to aid visiting Joliet Catholic (9-2). Mitch Boe (2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Rylan Bannon (4 runs) also starred for the Hilltoppers.

Nazareth 11, Rich Central 3: Belgee Falkner Jr. (2-for-4, run) posted an RBI single for host Rich Central (5-2).

Homewood-Flossmoor 19-14, Beecher 7-5: Nick Brandt finished the day 6-for-8 with two home runs, three doubles, five runs and nine RBI to carry visiting Homewood-Flossmoor (7-1). Zac Ruzich (3-for-6) hit two homers and finished with six RBI for Beecher (8-3) in the six-inning opener. Brian Mayer added a pair of RBI for the Bobcats in Game 2.

Tinley Park 21-33, Thornwood 11-12: Steven Gonzalez went a combined 6-for-8 with eight RBI for host Tinley Park (4-3). Alec Foster (5-for-7) added five runs and six RBI for the Titans, who took the opener in six innings and the nightcap in five.

Crete-Monee 13-3, Peotone 12-8: Guillermo Haro’s RBI double in the 12th inning enabled visiting Crete-Monee (4-4) to prevail in the first game. Josh Walters contributed a pair of RBI for the Warriors in Game 2.

Lemont 4-7, Wheaton North 3-6: Brett Twohill’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh enabled Lemont (9-0) to garner the sweep. The Indians took the opener thanks to Mike Papierski, whose run-scoring double capped a three-run rally in the fifth inning.

Illinois Lutheran 11-3, Westminster Christian 0-0: Grant Farmer’s two-run single in the eighth inning enabled Illinois Lutheran (8-1) to complete the sweep. Sam Geraci (3-for-4) belted a three-run homer and scored twice to lead the Chargers in the five-inning opener.

Seton 17, Hammond 10: Tyrone Gaston (2-for-3) chalked up three runs, three stolen bases and two RBI for visiting Seton (2-4).

Lincoln-Way Central Invitational

Richards 15, Normal Community 9: Nate Natividad, Eric Mallo and Kyle Garrett homered to aid Richards (8-2) in the championship.

Lincoln-Way Central 17, Plainfield South 1: Ryan Earll (2-for-4, 4 runs, 3 RBI) crushed two home runs to lead Lincoln-Way Central (7-4) in the third-place game. Cam Post added a three-run homer and four RBI for the Knights in the six-inning game.

Richards 8, Plainfield South 7: Shane Mills connected for a game-winning two-run single in the top of the seventh for Richards in the semifinal.

Normal Community 4, Lincoln-Way Central 3: Pat Michalak contributed a solo homer for Lincoln-Way Central in semifinal play.

Softball

Lincoln-Way West 8, Tinley Park 2: Dani Morgan (2-for-3, 2 runs) chalked up a homer and two RBI to spark visiting Lincoln-Way West (9-1). Morghan Dieringer pitched a four-hitter and fanned 10 for the Warriors. Tinley Park fell to 6-1.

Andrew 3, Homewood-Flossmoor 2: Run-scoring groundouts by Shannon Flaherty and Abbie Bailey in the top of the sixth put visiting Andrew (9-2) over the top in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Maddie Sherwood fanned 11 in pitching a complete game for the Thunderbolts. Olivia Dau (2 RBI) hit a solo homer for Homewood-Flossmoor (2-5).

Marist 10, Minooka 6: Alexis Rogers went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead visiting Marist (8-3-1). Brooke Wilson (2-for-4, 3 RBI) chipped in a solo homer and two RBI for the RedHawks.

Richards 4, Lyons 2: Winning pitcher Sara Kiziak (4-2) smacked a two-run double and Emily Wetzel added a two-run homer to aid host Richards (6-3).

Providence 11, Illiana Christian 1: Allyssa Demma (3-for-3) posted a two-run homer and three-run triple to vault host Providence (4-3). Kendall Judge added a three-run shot for the Celtics in the five-inning game. Ashley Wiltjer homered for Illiana Christian (1-6).

Montini 5, Marian Catholic 4: Allison Spence contributed a solo homer for visiting Marian Catholic (4-3) in the eight-inning affair.

Beecher 16, Prairie Central 0: Taylor Johnson’s two homers and three RBI loomed large for visiting Beecher (10-4) in the five-inning contest.

Rich East 15, T.F. North 5: Cayla Brown threw a complete game (8 strikeouts) and also slugged a two-run homer to steer host Rich East (5-1) in the five-inning contest.

T.F. South 8, Lincoln-Way North 3: Ashtyn Kapovich (2-for-3) had four RBI and Sarah Kessler (4-hitter) went the distance to lift host T.F. South (6-3). Anne Allen contributed a solo homer for Lincoln-Way North (3-3).

Mother McAuley 11, Regina 0: Dara Sanders was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI for host Mother McAuley (6-3, 3-0) in the six-inning GCAC Red contest. Jessica Alberts gave up one hit and struck out 11 in going the route for the Mighty Macs.

Chicago Christian 10, Walther Christian 0: Davina Gutierrez struck out six in pitching a no-hitter for host Chicago Christian (1-5) in the five-inning game. Abbie Bulthuis also starred for the Knights, going 3-for-4 with four runs and three stolen bases.

Evergreen Park 9-9, Riverside-Brookfield 0-13: Karly Rickert (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Bethany Salazar (4-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI) were at the forefront for host Evergreen Park (5-6) in Game 1. Carolyn Roberts posted two RBI for the Mustangs in the nightcap.

Plainfield East 12-6, Lincoln-Way Central 2-21: Jackie Farbak (5-for-5, 5 runs) clubbed three homers and drove in seven to power visiting Lincoln-Way Central (5-4) in the five-inning finale. Jordan Davis (4-for-4, 2 runs) added a three-run shot and four RBI for the Knights. Naidelyn Medina homered and Hannah Hosty contributed an RBI double for Lincoln-Way Central in the first game, which also lasted five innings.

Lemont 3-12, Hinsdale South 0-5: Maddie Vermejan went a combined 5-for-9 with two doubles, three runs and five RBI for visiting Lemont (8-3).

Shepard 10-19, Wheaton Academy 1-7: Jalyn Stepney (5-for-8, 7 runs, 8 RBI) homered three times and drove in six runs for visiting Shepard 5-3) in Game 2.

Girls Soccer

T.F. United 10, Rich East 5: Monica Munoz posted five goals and three assists for visiting T.F. United (4-3).

Pepsi Showdown

Lockport 2, Romeoville 1 (2 OTs): Jamie Hansen’s goal boosted Lockport (2-2-3) in Schaumburg.

Badminton

T.F. South quadrangular: Jessica Gomez won all three of her singles matches as T.F. South (22 points) outscored Reavis (11), Metea Valley (10) and Elk Grove (5). Cassie Breshock and Jenna Pasko went 3-0 in doubles play for the Rebels, along the pairing of Paula Rodriguez and Cameron Crosby.

Boys Water Polo

Elk Grove Invitational: Alex Gacek’s four goals propelled Andrew past Hersey 9-7 in the title round. Earlier, the Thunderbolts bested Elk Grove 19-6 and Hoffman Estates 20-1.

Glenbard South quadrangular: Jake Carlson’s seven goals helped Lincoln-Way West earn a 10-all tie with Conant. In their other two matches the Warriors lost to Hinsdale Central 8-7 and Glenbrook South 12-11.

Girls Water Polo

Glenbard South quadrangular: Gena Tanquilut put in six goals as Lincoln-Way West beat Hinsdale Central 5-4 and Glenbrook South 5-4. The Warriors also fell to Conant 11-7.

Boys Track & Field

Argo Invitational: Scores were not provided for the 11-team meet. Rich South’s Sean Blunt won the high jump (6 feet) and teammate Darryl McFadden prevailed in the long jump (20 feet, 4¾ inches). In the other track events, Lemont’s Edward Kostrubala captured top honors in the discus (131-5) and Andrew’s Jarvion Franklin headed the field in the shot put (48-5). Rich Central’s Franklin Hunt led the pack in the 100-meter dash (10.93 seconds). Tinley Park’s Johnny Taylor won the 200 (22.77) and Reavis’ Robert Centeno (52.28) crossed the finish line first in the 400. Rich Central captured first place in the 400 relay (44.54), Tinley Park prevailed in the 800 relay (1 minute, 34.07 seconds) and Argo beat all competitors in the mile relay (3:40.11).

Belleville West Invitational: Homewood-Flossmoor’s Matt Anyiwo was the top area representative, garnering first place in the 800 (1:56.24). Cahokia (95) won the team crown ahead of Minooka (82½), Edwardsville (76), O’Fallon (70) and Belleville West (59).

United Township Invitational: Adonis Barnes posted the fasted times in the Flight A 110 hurdles (15.46) and Flight A 300 hurdles (41.07) in guiding T.F. North (137) to sixth place out of 12 teams.

Girls Track & Field

Lincoln-Way Central Invitational: Alexis Hyshaw won the 100 (11.20) and 200 (24.10) as Lincoln-Way East paced all teams with 10 victories in the nonscoring meet. Thornwood captured two events, thanks to Janeah Stewart in the shot put (36-3) and Brieana Holmes in the triple jump (34-4). Other winners included Lincoln-Way Central’s Ashley Raehsler in the 300 hurdles (49.10) and Mother McAuley’s Briana Driver in the long jump (18-1½).

Metea Valley Invitational: Wins by Maegan Evans in the pole vault (7-6), Kate Reposh in the triple jump (35-3) and the foursome in the mile relay (4:11.90) spurred Lockport (77) to a second-place finish. Metea Valley (82) secured top honors in the eight-team meet.

Plainfield North Relays: Jacque Desmond won the pole vault (10-6) and Viktorija Marmaite prevailed in the triple jump (33-6½) as Lemont (19) finished ninth in the 14-team meet won by Minooka (106).

College Baseball

St. Xavier 11-13, Roosevelt 9-6: St. Xavier coach Mike Dooley captured his 800th career victory after the host Cougars (15-19, 10-4) won both ends of the Chicagoland Collegiate Conference doubleheader. St. Xavier took the opener behind Tom Keating, whose two-run double in the sixth snapped a 9-all tie. Brad Myjak (3-for-4, 2 runs) and Chris Klein (2-for-5, 2 run) contributed three RBI apiece for St. Xavier in Game 2.

Madison 10, Joliet Junior College 9: Nick Fleischauer went 3-for-4 with three RBI to aid host Joliet Junior College (20-13, 4-2) in the first game of Region IV doubleheader. T.J. Condon (3-for-4) and Ron Sessler added two runs and two RBI each for the Wolves. Condon and David Rico batted in runs for Joliet Junior College in Game 2. Josh Wojnarowski allowed four unearned runs in taking the loss.

St. Francis 9-3, Olivet Nazarene 5-2: Rick Faron’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th gave St. Francis (24-15, 12-3) both ends of the CCAC doubleheader at Silver Cross Field. Joe Ruge and Luke Wyss each contributed two RBI for the Saints in Game 1.

Lewis 11-13, Illinois-Springfield 4-12: Mike Barajas’ eighth-inning single scored Austin Mastela with the winning run in Game 2 as host Lewis (19-15, 12-9) completed the sweep in the Great Lakes Valley.

Barajas (3-for-4) and Kyle Kapka (3-for-5) each contributed three runs and two RBI for the Flyers.

Joe Sparacio went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI to vault Lewis in Game 1. Sam Couch (6-1) allowed five hits and struck out six in going the distance for the Flyers.

Men’s Golf

Bethel Invitational: Runner-up James Kerr (78) posted a two-day score of 145 as St. Xavier (588) topped the host school by eight strokes for first place in the 16-team meet in South Bend, Ind. Kirby Brown (146) added a fourth place showing for the Cougars and teammate Kyle Bahnick (147) tied for fifth.

Millikin Invitational: St. Francis’ Chris Jones shot a 78 to finish tied for 15th with a two-day score of 153 at Red Tail Run in Decatur. Daniel Frantz (70-84) added 154 as the Wolves (623) came in sixth out of 12 teams. Lindenwood-Belleville (591) won the team crown.

Men’s Tennis

St. Francis 7, Cardinal Stritch 1: Mark Zubov, Boris Peshev and Anders Sandberg prevailed in both singles and doubles for visiting St. Francis (11-8, 3-1) in the CCAC.

Men’s Track & Field

Chicagoland Championships: Mark Bonds, of host Lewis, posted an NCAA Provisional mark and personal best time in winning the 100-meter dash (10.51). Mike Gallagher added a win in the 400 (49.12) for the Flyers and Kevin Dorenkamper finished ahead of the pack in the 400 hurdles (55.14). As a team, Lewis (122) finished second to North Central (180.5). St. Francis (41) was ninth, St. Xavier (21) was 12th and Trinity Christian (10) 17th among the 20 scoring squads.

Women’s Golf

Beth Invitational: St. Xavier (767) finished sixth in the eight-team meet won by Bethel (613). The Cougars’ top golfer was Taylor Thompson (164) who tied for eighth after posting a second-round 80.

Women’s Softball

St. Xavier 4-7, Cardinal Stritch 0-4: Amanda Hainlen’s three-run homer sparked host St. Xavier (27-3, 11-1) in the second game of the CCAC doubleheader. Nicole Nonnemacher (11-2) spun a five-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Cougars in Game 1. Kasey Kanaga (2-for-3) and Savannah Kinsella each posted a run and an RBI for the winners.

Lewis 1-10 Rockhurst 0- 6: Alyssa Moseley hit an RBI double and Kelly Bowler tossed a four-hitter to pace host Lewis (13-20, 7-13) in Game 1 of the Great Lakes Valley doubleheader. Ali Brems’s three-run homer and four RBI led the way for the Flyers in the second game, which Bowler (7-9) won after pitching four innings in relief.

Purdue-Calumet 8-1, St. Francis 0-2: Kaley Jendraszak’s two-run single in the bottom of the first was the difference for St. Francis (14-14) in the nightcap. Corey Shahan (3-4) gave up one hit in going the route for the Saints. Jendraszak and Kiley Southall had one hit apiece for the Saints in Game 1.

Women’s Tennis

Cardinal Stritch 7, St. Francis 1: Danielle Hoffman won at No. 2 singles for visiting St. Francis (9-9, 2-2) in the CCAC.

Women’s Track & Field

Chicagoland Championships: Chantel Stennis won the 200 (23.96) and 400 (57.21) – reaching an NCAA Provisional mark in the former race – as host Lewis (197.5) easily outdistanced runner-up North Central (127) for first place in the xx-team field. Stennis also helped the Flyers capture top honors in the 400 relay (47.21), along with Megan Marchildon, Ambert Wentzloff and Kayla King. Marchildon posted a provisional mark in winning the 100 hurdles (13.74) and Phoenix Smallwood earned the same distinction by virtue of her effort in the triple jump (38-11¾). St. Francis (73) came in fourth, Trinity Christian (18) was 10th and St. Xavier (7) 14th.
