Softball: Three things learned

1. T.F. South bears watching. The Rebels had a tough time of it in a 6-0 loss April 11 to Tinley Park, but seem to have all of the pieces to make this the best of Jamie Arundel’s three seasons as coach. Tiambris Tate, who missed last season because of an injury, had a rocket double against the Titans, while Sydney Harrison just missed hitting out one. The pitching appears solid with Devin Pieper and Sarah Kessler.

2. Macs are resilient. Mother McAuley coach Colleen Kilduff undoubtedly challenged her team after a disappointing 10-0 loss April 7 to Providence. The Mighty Macs have responded well behind the pitching of Dara Sanders, Holly Marousek and Jessica Alberts, with an 8-0 shutout over Stagg and an 11-0 decision over Regina sandwiched around a 4-2 victory over Trinity.

3. Rockets are boosted. Rich East won just seven games in 2013. The Rockets of 2014 are 5-1, with Cayla Brown striking out eight and hitting a two-run homer in a 15-5 victory over T.F. North. Brown has 68 strikeouts for the season.
