Baseball

Lincoln-Way East 2, Plainfield South 0: Jack Dwyer (single) and Brian Christianson (triple) posted RBI for host Lincoln-Way East (8-5). Ryan August and five relievers combined on a five-hitter for the Griffins.

Mount Carmel 10, Bishop McNamara 3: Malik Carpenter (3-for-4) registered two runs and two RBI to vault host Mount Carmel (11-2, 3-0) in the Catholic League crossover. Josh Stowers and Nick Wheeler added two-run singles for the Caravan.

Reavis 6, Romeoville 0: Lael Robles allowed three hits in tossing a complete game for host Reavis (5-9). Joe O’Hara ripped an RBI double and scored twice to pace the offense.

Lincoln-Way Central 5, Aurora Central Catholic 4: Pinch-runner Ryan Tishka scored on Tony Kestel’s seventh-inning single to win it for host Lincoln-Way Central (10-4). Kevin Mampe tacked on a two-run single for the Knights.

St. Rita 10, St. Joseph 0: Jake Shepski and Tyler Halas smashed two-run singles to propel host St. Rita (19-0, 4-0) in the five-inning Catholic League crossover. Matt Lenzen (4-0) scattered two hits over four innings before giving way to Matt Ryan, who recorded the final three outs.

Lincoln-Way West 3, Clemente 2: Ben Zordani’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth was the margin of victory for host Lincoln-Way West (12-0). Reliever John Saffrahn (5 innings) earned the win after giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out five.

Illiana Christian 8, Oak Forest 4: Jack Hillegonds surrendered one unearned in five innings and also belted a two-run double to spur host Illiana Christian (5-5). Matt Dykstra (3-for-4, 3 RBI) added a two-run homer for the Vikings and Matt Schaaf scored twice. Alex Maka provided a two-run single for Oak Forest.

St. Laurence 7, Gordon Tech 1: Mike Kornacker tossed a two-hitter and struck out 15 to pace host St. Laurence (14-2, 3-1) in the Catholic League crossover. Mike Miller slammed a two-run triple for the Vikings and Nate Tholl (2-for-4) scored two runs.

Homewood-Flossmoor 8, Evergreen Park 0: James Sheehan’s two-run double and Vashon Nutt’s two-run single loomed large for visiting Homewood-Flossmoor (8-3). Malcolm Grady also starred for the Vikings, allowing two hits and striking out 10 over six innings. Mark Martin and Sean Miller posted one hit apiece for Evergreen Park (5-7).

Lincoln-Way North 4, Lemont 3: Erik Eggert’s one-out single in the bottom of the 10th scored D.J. Lee with the winning run for Lincoln-Way North (9-1). Mike Wisz recorded an RBI for Lemont (11-1).

Argo 4, Eisenhower 3: Chad Garcia had two RBI and Zach Crisostomo struck out 10 over six innings to propel visiting Argo (4-7, 2-4) in the South Suburban Red.

Bremen 16, Bloom 0: Tyler Banovich pitched a complete game and Kyle Ramos (3-for-4) totaled four RBI to spark visiting Bremen (8-8) in the five-inning contest.

Providence 9, Fenwick 6: Phil Kunsa’s three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th capped a four-run rally for Providence (11-4, 3-0) in the Catholic League crossover.

T.F. South 3, Tinley Park 1: James Macklin had two RBI and Steve Stubitsch (5-hitter, 7 strikeouts) went the route to catapult host T.F. South (8-6, 4-3) in the South Suburban Blue.

Joliet Central 7, Thornton 3: Ronnie Cross posted a run-scoring single and two RBI for visiting Thornton (1-10) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Andrew 6, Richards 5: Ryan Hartmann scored the deciding run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to lead host Andrew (4-9). Danny Estrella went 4-for-4 with two runs to lead Richards (11-3).

Joliet Catholic 6-2, Marist 1-3: Nick Dalesandro (2-hitter, 8 strikeouts) pitched a complete game and also went 2-for-4 with two RBI to guide host Joliet Catholic (11-3, 1-1) in the opener of the East Suburban Catholic doubleheader. Tom Finwall’s solo homer with one out in the seventh inning enabled Marist (8-8, 1-1) to take the nightcap.

Stagg 2-4, Bloomington 1-6: Nick Gerzon (no earned runs) tossed a four-hitter and also bashed an RBI single to lead host Stagg (6-9) in Game 1. Jake Wimmer (3-for-4) recorded a two-run double and three RBI for the Chargers in the second game.

St. Viator 5-6, Marian Catholic 3-8: Pat Schmidt (3-for-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI) launched a two-run homer and Chris Baker added a two-run triple to aid Marian Catholic (8-6, 1-1) in Game 2 of the East Suburban Catholic doubleheader. Michael Bainbridge (2-for-3) put up one run and one RBI for the Spartans in the opener.

Chicago Christian 7-10, Beecher 5-5: Zach Frieling’s three RBI paced Chicago Christian (12-6) to the sweep at Valparaiso. Jack DeVries (2-for-4) added two runs and two RBI for the Knights. Dallas Saddler was the standout for Beecher (9-5), going 2-for-3 with three runs knocked in. Sean O’Meara’s solo homer and two runs from Josh Novak sparked the Knights in Game 1. Tanner Saddler notched two hits and two runs for Beecher.

Crete-Monee triangular

Yorkville 12, Crete-Monee 0: Brandon Hickey, General McArthur and Matt Sonntag had one hit each for host Crete-Monee (5-6) in the five-inning contest.

Reed-Custer 4, Crete-Monee 2: Brandon Hickey had an RBI single and General McArthur tacked on a run-scoring double to aid host Crete-Monee in its first game.

Do It Stevie’s Way Classic

Providence 3, New Trier 1: Jake Godfrey (2-2) fanned 13 in pitching a complete game and Phil Kunza ripped a two-run double to carry visiting Providence (12-4).

Illinois Lutheran Invitational

Illinois Lutheran 10, Rich East 0: Chris Falk doubled and drove in three runs as Illinois Lutheran (11-1) won the championship in five innings. Sam Geraci contributed as a pitcher (2-hitter, 12 strikeouts) and hitter (2-for-3, run, RBI) for the Chargers. Ronald Applewhite and Caleb Warner collected hits for Rich East (1-8).

Illinois Lutheran 6, Thornridge 0: Grant Farmer (4-hitter) established a school record with 18 strikeouts to pace Illinois Lutheran in its first game. Jared Buzan (3-for-4) chipped in a double and two RBI for the winners.

Rich East 5, St. Francis de Sales 3: Ronald Applewhite’s two-run double and three RBI paved the way for Rich East in the early session.

Softball

Tinley Park 1, Richards 0: Annalisee Scott (7-1) pitched a five-hitter and also contributed an RBI single to propel host Tinley Park (8-2, 6-1) in the South Suburban crossover. Jordan Battles and Abby Gentile contributed two hits apiece for Richards (8-4, 7-2).

Lincoln-Way West 9, Oak Forest 2: Rachel Andrade (2-for-3, 2 runs) homered and drove in three runs to set the tone for visiting Lincoln-Way West (13-1). Morghan Dieringer hurled a four-hitter and struck out 12 for the Warriors. Taylor Sterkowitz hit a solo homer for Oak Forest (10-3).

Morton 5, Queen of Peace 1: Kayla Rybolt lashed an RBI single for host Queen of Peace (2-7).

Lincoln-Way East 9, Trinity 0: Blake Ruiz (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Alana Selvaggio (2-for-4, 2 runs) blasted solo homers to key visiting Lincoln-Way East (7-4). Amy Golaszewski (3 innings) and Nikole Van Gennep combined on a six-hitter for the Griffins at Triton College.

T.F. South 10, Hammond Gavit 1: Devin Pieper starred on the mound (2-hitter, 11 strikeouts) and at the plate (3-for-4, run, 2 RBI) to lift host T.F. South (9-3).

Lincoln-Way Central 6, Plainfield Central 4: Colleen McLaughlin (3-for-4, 2 doubles) and Naidelyn Medina drove in two runs apiece to carry visiting Lincoln-Way Central (8-5).

Willowbrook 10, Reavis 6: Ashley Galason’s two home runs and three RBI led visiting Reavis (8-6).

Lincoln-Way North 10, Lemont 7: Sam Pietruszynski (2-for-4, 2 runs) had three RBI and Haley Ruch contributed a two-run single to steer visiting Lincoln-Way North (6-3). Katie Lowery and Taylor Bowman chipped in solo homers for the Phoenix. Rachel Uher (2-for-3) posted a homer and three RBI for Lemont (10-4).

Crete-Monee 12, Eisenhower 4: Ashley Bartlett produced a home run and three RBI to steer visiting Crete-Monee (4-3).

Seton 15, Josephinum 5: Aliyah Qualls (3-for-4, 2 doubles) pitched in two runs and two RBI for host Seton (2-4) in the GCAC White.

New Trier 5-7, Sandburg 3-4: Sarah Herold (2-for-3) bashed a solo homer for host Sandburg (8-7) in Game 1. Madeline Hanley provided a two-run single for the Eagles in the nightcap.

Providence 5-6, Fenwick 1-9: Kendall Judge (unearned run) gave up six hits and struck out 13 in pitching a complete game for visiting Providence (6-4, 1-1) in the opener of the East Suburban Catholic doubleheader. Jessica Cothern crushed a solo homer for the Celtics and Morgan Greenwood (2-for-2) scored a pair of runs. Allyssa Demma swatted a two-run homer for Providence in Game 2 and Elizabeth Dennis added a two-run single.

Beecher 11-12, Reed-Custer 4-2: Taylor Johnson went a combined 5-for-8 with a home run, three doubles and six RBI for host Beecher (14-4).

Marist 11-13, St. Viator 0-0: Visiting Marist (10-3-1, 2-0) registered a pair of five-inning wins in the East Suburban Catholic. Brooke Wyderski (4-for-4, 4 runs) homered twice and knocked in six runs for the RedHawks in the opener, and Jill Kenny (3-for-3) provided three RBI in Game 2. Zariya Gonzalez tossed a one-hitter in the opener for the winners and Lizzie Annerino did the same in the finale.

Marian Catholic 14-6, Carmel 13-6: Allison Spence (5-for-9, 5 runs) racked up three doubles, two homers and seven RBI to direct visiting Marian Catholic (5-4, 1-1) in East Suburban Catholic play. Both of Spence’s homers came in the nine-inning opener, which also included round-trippers from Gabby Angellotti and Meghan Henson.

Benet 12-12, Joliet Catholic 3-0: Meghan Harrison and Reilly Jo Swanson contributed RBI singles for visiting Joliet Catholic (6-6, 1-3) in the first game of the East Suburban Catholic doubleheader. Alivia Phelps and Josie Henderson had the only two hits for the Angels in the five-inning finale.

Illinois Lutheran 12-4, Grace Christian 3-3: Caroline Kuether scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to cap a two-run spree for Illinois Lutheran (3-7) in Game 2. Kassie Kernagis (3-for-5) posted two RBI for the Chargers in the opener and Hannah Hinz (3-for-5) scored twice.

Lockport triangular

Lockport 5, Downers Grove South 3: Halle Hollatz’s two-run double highlighted a four-run second inning for Lockport (9-3-1). Kalyn Putman pitched a complete game for the Porters.

Lockport 7, Peotone 1: Jordan Arndt (3-for-3) scored twice and Sarah DeMasi (2-for-3) batted in two runs to pace Lockport in its first game. Justine Cielenski was touched for five hits and struck out five in going the route for the Porters.

St. Edward Invitational

Illiana Christian 3, Harvard 2: Jess Bombino, Kat Witting and Ashley Wiltjer knocked in runs for Illiana Christian (5-8) in its tournament finale.

Illiana Christian 16, East Aurora 0: Brooke VanderAa and Heather Wiltjer struck out seven in combining on a no-hitter for the Vikings in the five-inning contest.

Farmington 9, Illiana Christian 8: Jess Bombino went 3-for-6 with an RBI to aid Illiana in its tournament opener.

Girls Soccer

Providence 1, Andrew 1: Alicia Halikas scored for host Andrew (6-2-2). Kyleigh Maday netted the goal for Providence (6-4-2).

Lemont 1, Downers Grove South 0: Kim Jerantowski (goal) and Kelly Fritz (8 saves) were the main contributors for host Lemont (7-0-1).

Lincoln-Way West Invitational

Lincoln-Way West 1, Oak Forest 0: Emily Wyskiel’s goal, off an assist from Brianna Heyer, enabled Lincoln-Way West (11-2) to capture first place in the round robin tournament. Audrey Pearson posted her second shutout of the day for the Warriors.

Lincoln-Way West 5, Crete-Monee 0: Emily Wyskiel scored twice and Brianna Heyer added two assists to boost Lincoln-Way West in the morning session.

PepsiCo Showdown

Lincoln-Way North 2, Lane Tech 0: Goals by Rachel Pappas and Tasha Fields sparked Lincoln-Way North (9-3-1) at Olympic Park in Schaumburg.

Boys Volleyball

Streamwood Invitational: Ryan Sadler dished out 48 assists on the day for Lockport (10-6), which lost to St. Francis 25-17, 25-15 in the championship. Adam Krzos added 28 kills for the Porters, who won three of five matches, including a 25-22, 27-25 decision over Streamwood in the semifinal round.

Badminton

New Trier Invitational: Hannah Burke won the title at No. 4 singles in leading Lockport (22) to sixth place in the 16-team tournament. Andrew and Lincoln-Way Central (10) tied for 10th in the meet won by Hinsdale South (33).

Boys Tennis

Geneva Invitational: Tom Emola and Jaroslaw Jozwik won the crown at No. 1 singles as Lincoln-Way East (19) outscored Marmion (15) for first place among the six scoring teams. Colin Walsh and Connor VanderGenugten added a championship at second-seeded doubles for the Griffins.

Girls Water Polo

Sandburg 11, Fremd 2: Sarah Dolitsky put in six goals and Clare Lawlor netted a hat trick to key visiting Sandburg.

York Invitational: Megan Hofer scored 14 goals as Andrew defeated Naperville North 8-5, Barrington 17-2 and York 10-0 to win the tournament championship.

Boys Track & Field

West Aurora Invitational: Demetrius Mitchell won the 110-meter high hurdles (15.12 seconds) and 300 low hurdles (39.60) in leading Thornton (76) to a sixth-place finish in the 11-team meet. JoWahn Brown added a victory in the long jump (20 feet-8½ inches) for the Wildcats. Nick Hinton was top in the high jump (6-1) in leading Lincoln-Way West (42) to an eighth-place showing.

Urbana Invitational: Wins by Giovanni Young 100-meter dash (11.43) and Ramiro Jimenez in the pole vault (10-6) boosted Argo (39) to sixth place in the 13-team meet won by Zion-Benton (113). Rich South (24) came in 11th.

Girls Track & Field

Hinsdale Central Invitational: Marist (77) was fourth out of eight squads. The RedHawks received victories from Maryclare Leonard in the mile run (5 minutes, 1.87 seconds), Kelly Carollo in the high jump (5-4) and Julia Linares in the pole vault (6-6). Oak Park-River Forest won the team crown.

Oswego East Invitational: Ninaa Edwards’ victories in the 100 high hurdles (16.12) and 300 low hurdles (47.50) spurred Rich South (69) to third place behind Bolingbrook (82) and Batavia (79). Viktorija Marmaite won the long jump (16-4) and triple jump (37-10) in guiding Lemont (49) to seventh place in the 15-team field.

College Baseball

St. Francis 2-3, Purdue-North Central 0-0: Adam Panayotovich (6-2) fired a four-hitter and struck out nine to propel visiting St. Francis (29-15, 17-3) in the opener of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. Joe Ruge (single) and David Kuhne (double) provided run-scoring hits for the Saints. Brad Porter’s leadoff homer in the third inning was all the offense St. Francis needed in Game 2. Charlie Ludolph (2-1) gave up eight hits before yielding to Brad Porter, who recorded the last out in the nine-inning contest.

Joliet Junior College 14-7, Rock Valley 4-5: Nick Fleischauer’s RBI double and Ben Kirchler’s sacrifice fly – both in the eighth inning – put visiting Joliet Junior College (25-13) in the win column for the second game in a row. The Wolves won the opener in five innings as Colten Trager (2-for-3, 2 runs) had three RBI and Ron Sessler (3-for-3) scored three runs.

St. Xavier 9-4, Cardinal Stritch 3-5: Tom Keating and Ryan Pellack each contributed two hits and two runs for host St. Xavier (17-23, 12-8) in the CCAC opener. Bryan Polak (2-for-4) and Brad Myjak added two RBI apiece for the Cougars in backing Jesse Lopez (4-3), who surrendered seven hits in going the route. Keating and Bryan Villanova garnered RBI singles for St. Xavier in the nine-inning nightcap.

Southern Indiana 4-4, Lewis 3-3: Jake Murray smashed an RBI double and Sam Couch (6-2) gave up two earned runs in pitching a complete game for visiting Lewis (19-19, 12-13) in the Great Lakes Valley. Kyle Kapka lined a two-run single for the Flyers in the 14-inning finale.

Trinity Christian 5-12, Calumet 3-2: Joe Presutti and Vince Flores posted RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-all tie and vault host Trinity Christian (18-17, 11-9) in Game 1 of the CCAC doubleheader. Peter Krygsheld and Eric Slager hit two-run singles for the Trolls in the second game.

Women’s Softball

St. Xavier 2-2, Grand View 0-0: Nicole Nonnemacher (15-2) spun a three-hitter and fanned 14 in Game 2 as host St. Xavier (35-3) tied a school record with its 19th consecutive victory. Amanda Hainlen and Katie Houlihan knocked in runs for the Cougars. Megan Nonnemacher (17-1) tossed a three-hitter of her own in the opener. The winners scored twice in the fourth inning on RBI from Katie Sears and Franchesca Graffeo.

Lewis 3-7, Drury 1-0: Carolyn Nojiri (2-for-3, RBI) and Justina Doll scored two runs each as visiting Lewis (17-21, 11-14-1) swept the Great Lakes Valley doubleheader. Kelly Bowler (10-9) struck out nine in tossing a complete game for the Flyers. Ali Brems (3-2) fired a three-hitter in going the distance for Lewis in Game 1. She also contributed a run and an RBI.

Women’s Tennis

St. Francis 8, Purdue-Calumet 1: Anne-Christine Tompkins and Princess Clemente won their match at No. 1 doubles to vault host St. Francis (12-9, 5-2) in the CCAC.

Great Lakes Valley Semifina

>Lewis 5, Missouri-St. Louis 0: Zsofia Kranczicki won at No. 1 singles and teamed with Megan Nguyen for a victory at top-seeded doubles in helping Lewis (14-3) advance to the championship. Zsofia Lanstiak added wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Flyers in St. Louis.
