Baseball

St. Rita 14, St. Ignatius 2: Nick Goldsmith (4 RBI) hit a three-run homer and Jake Shepski added a two-run triple to power visiting St. Rita (20-0, 5-0) in the five-inning Catholic League crossover.

Joliet Catholic 14, Providence 0: Mitch Boe had four RBI and Drake Fellows pitched a complete game (3-hitter, 8 strikeouts) to spark visiting Joliet Catholic (12-3) in the five-inning contest. Mike Quiram (2-for-2) and Danny Weiss added four runs each for the Hilltoppers. Cam Calgano had a double for Providence.

Bloom 1, Crete-Monee 0: Josh Hojnicki allowed two hits and struck out 16 in going the distance for visiting Bloom (6-5, 5-0) in the Southland. Hojnicki also hit a sixth-inning single to score Eric Luther. Brandon Hickey pitched a three-hitter and struck out 14 for Crete-Monee (5-7, 3-1).

Lincoln-Way North 8, Thornwood 0: Liam Jenkins (5 innings) and Matt Strzelczyk combined to allow one hit and strike out 10 for visiting Lincoln-Way North (11-1, 3-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Josh Mutter, Mike Rissley and Ben Troike had RBI for the Phoenix. Niko Moore had the hit for Thornwood.

Lemont 9, Tinley Park 0: Ryan Sublette (6 innings) pitched one-hitter and struck out 10 for host Lemont (12-1, 5-0) in the South Suburban Blue. Mike Papierski (2-for-4, 2 runs) smashed a two-run homer for the Indians and Mike Wisz (3-for-4) scored twice. Steven Gonzalez had the hit for Tinley Park (4-6, 1-5).

Ag. Science 10, Curie 0: Joe Wolniakowski (3-for-4) had three RBI to lead host Ag. Science (14-3, 6-1) in the six-inning Public League Sammy Sosa game.

Mount Carmel 7, Fenwick 6: A.J. Lewis’ grand slam in the top of the seventh put visiting Mount Carmel (13-2, 5-0) over the top in the Catholic League crossover.

Marian Catholic 7, Illiana Christian 1: Michael Bainbridge, Patrick Schmidt and Chris Howard all had a run and an RBI for host Marian Catholic (9-6). Carlo Falconi (6 innings) gave up one run on five hits for the Spartans. Jack Hillegonds had an RBI for Illiana Christian (5-6).

Lincoln-Way Central 10, Thornton 7: Tony Kestel (2-for-3) chalked up three runs and Kevin Mampe (2-for-5) tacked on two RBI for visiting Lincoln-Way Central (11-4, 3-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Ronnie Cross (2-for-3) put up two runs and two RBI to lead Thornton (1-11, 0-3).

Providence 13, Bishop McNamara 0: Homers by Phil Kunsa (3-for-3, 5 RBI), Mike Madej (2-for-4, 4 RBI) and Alvin Perez (1-for-2, 3 RBI) powered visiting Providence (14-5, 5-0) in the five-inning Catholic League crossover. Eric Dubek fired a no-hitter for the Celtics.

T.F. South 13, T.F. North 0: Dan Lindich threw a no-hitter for visiting T.F. South (9-6, 5-3) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue game.

Lockport 9, Joliet Central 1: Jeremy Quade (2-for-2) had four RBI for visiting Lockport (8-9, 3-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Winner Mike Formella (6 innings) gave up one run on three hits and struck out six.

Lincoln-Way West 2, Bradley 1: Ryan Hastings scored the winning run on a seventh-inning error for visiting Lincoln-Way West (14-0, 3-0). Luke Morgan and Dylan Eller combined on a one-hitter for the Warriors.

Rich Central 11, Kankakee 1: Demetrius Todd doubled twice and drove in three to catapult host Rich Central (7-4, 3-2) in the five-inning Southland game.

Sandburg 6, Bolingbrook 1: Sean Leland (3-1) tossed a three-hitter and fanned nine for host Sandburg (10-4, 3-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Jim Roche and Chris Stearns had RBI for the Eagles.

Oak Lawn 6, Eisenhower 1: Justin Swatek (2-for-3) had two RBI and Matt Dunne spun a four-hitter to lead host Oak Lawn (4-12, 3-3) in the South Suburban Red.

Joliet West 4, Stagg 3: Jake Wimmer and Ethan Glaza had RBI for host Stagg (6-10, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Max Strus allowed one earned run and struck out seven in going the route for the Chargers.

Evergreen Park 6, Reavis 5: Run-scoring doubles from Mark Martin, Corey Miller and Sean Miller highlighted a five-run third inning for host Evergreen Park (5-6, 4-3) in the South Suburban Red. Joe O’Hara clubbed a two-run homer for Reavis (5-10, 2-4).

Homewood-Flossmoor 6, Lincoln-Way East 3: Parker Coleman (2-for-3), Kendall King and James Sheehan all had two RBI for visiting Homewood-Flossmoor (9-3, 1-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Kenichi Haynie, Jack Dwyer, Joe McNulty and Christian Signorelli posted RBI for Lincoln-Way East (8-6, 1-2).

Rich South 15, Rich East 5: Micah Arriaga’s three RBI spurred host Rich South (2-8, 1-4) in the five-inning Southland contest. John Kriha gave up one earned run and fanned six in pitching a complete game for the Stars. Anfernee Morris went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Rich East (1-9, 0-4).

Bremen 3, Argo 2: Sean Grant (no earned runs) pitched a complete game for host Bremen (9-8, 2-4) in the South Suburban crossover. Ryan Lynch and Nick Strache had RBI for the Braves.

Beecher 13, Momence 0: Paschal Gianotti (3-for-3) had three runs and two RBI for host Beecher in the five-inning game. Zac Ruzich hurled a one-hitter and struck out nine for the Bobcats.

Softball

Marist 9, Joliet Catholic 1: Brooke Wilson hit a three-run triple and Brooke Wyderski launched a two-run homer to boost visiting Marist (11-3-1, 3-0) in the East Suburban Catholic. Zariya Gonzalez (2-for-3) added two runs for the RedHawks and also fanned eight in going the distance. Alyssa Callans homered for Joliet Catholic (6-7, 1-4).

Joliet West 4, Lockport 1: Gabby Voulgaris slugged a first-inning homer for visiting Lockport (9-4-1, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Shepard 12, Evergreen Park 2: Alyssa DeChene (2-for-3, 2 runs) hit two homers and finished with five RBI to spur host Shepard (9-5, 5-4) in the South Suburban Red. Jalyn Stepney (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Jenna Huisenga also went deep for the Astros in the five-inning affair.

Sandburg 3, Lincoln-Way East 1: Sarah Herold scored two runs and also fanned 12 in spinning a one-hitter for host Sandburg (9-7, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Katie Krzus, Lauren McCaughey and Briana Soltis recorded RBI singles for the Eagles. Blake Ruiz homered for Lincoln-Way East (8-5, 0-3).

Lincoln-Way North 6, Andrew 4: Jenna Trojniar’s two-run single in the top of the seventh capped a four-run rally for Lincoln-Way North (7-3, 3-0). Shannon Flaherty posted a two-run single to pace Andrew (11-4, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Oak Forest 16, T.F. North 0: Taylor Sterkowitz (2-for-3, 4 runs) homered and knocked in three runs for host Oak Forest (11-4, 6-1) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue contest.

Illiana Christian 6, Riverside-Brookfield 0: Katie Eriks (3-for-3) posted two runs and two RBI to vault host Illiana Christian (6-8, 4-1) in the Metro Suburban. Brooke VanderAa scattered five hits in going the distance for the Vikings.

Reavis 14, Eisenhower 2: Natalie Dudek (3-for-4) and Jaycie Caldwell (2-for-3) each scored two runs to aid host Reavis (10-6, 7-3) in the South Suburban Red. Maryssa Meskill (no earned runs) pitched a complete game for the Rams in the five-inning tilt.

Lemont 11, Hillcrest 1: Rylie Jay (2-for-2, 2 runs) homered and batted in three runs for visiting Lemont (11-4, 6-2) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue affair.

Homewood-Flossmoor 6, Stagg 1: Meagan Donermeyer (complete game) struck out 11 to spark host Homewood-Flossmoor (4-6, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Quadrea Allen, Kasey Nemitz and Kayla Butler each had an RBI for the Vikings.

Chicago Christian 6, Ridgewood 4: Kaycee Pittman’s three-run double snapped a 3-all tie and elevated host Chicago Christian (4-6). Trisha Belgrave added a two-run homer for the Knights.

Mount Assisi 7, Regina 4: Sabrina Miller belted a pair of solo homers and Molly Murphy (3-for-4, 3 RBI) added a two-run triple to lead visiting Mount Assisi (3-8, 2-5) in the GCAC Red.

Lincoln-Way Central 5, Bradley 4: Bree Schultz’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh was the difference-maker for Lincoln-Way Central (9-5, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Naidelyn Medina (4-for-4) added two runs for the Knights.

Beecher 12, Momence 1: Sarah Crews (3-for-3) had a homer and three RBI to carry host Beecher (15-4) in the five-inning contest.

Richards 12, Argo 2: Hailey Czerwinski (2-for-3) posted two runs and an RBI to aid host Richards (9-4, 8-2) in the five-inning South Suburban Red tilt. Sara Kiziak (6-3) surrendered five hits and fanned eight in going the route for the Bulldogs.

Mother McAuley 15, De La Salle 0: Briana Gyrion’s two-run double and three RBI led visiting Mother McAuley (11-3, 6-0) in the GCAC Red. Kara Bischoff added three runs for the Mighty Macs in support of Dara Sanders, who tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight in the five-inning game.

T.F. South 4, Bremen 3: Sarah Kessler scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth to boost visiting T.F. South (10-3, 8-2) in the South Suburban Red. Devin Pieper gave up six hits and struck out 14 in going the route for the Rebels.

Crete-Monee 8, Bloom 6: Amanda Warnke provided a pair of RBI singles and three RBI to steer Crete-Monee (7-3, 4-1) in the Southland. Katie Fredrick went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Bloom (6-6, 3-2).

Girls Soccer

Lincoln-Way East 1, Bradley 0: Jillian Kilrea set up Lindsey Murphy for the goal that lifted host Lincoln-Way East (8-3-1, 1-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Crete-Monee 5, Rich East 2: Adriana Vera scored five times to propel visiting Crete-Monee (4-6, 2-0) in the Southland.

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Thornwood co-op 1: Kyla Grundhofer’s hat trick set the tone for visiting Lincoln-Way Central (7-2-3, 1-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Lemont 5, Evergreen Park 0: Kim Jerantowski put in three goals to pace host Lemont (8-0-1, 7-0) in the South Suburban crossover.

Oak Forest 8, Oak Lawn 0: Rachel Valente had three goals and an assist for host Oak Forest (6-8, 3-3) in the South Suburban crossover.

Peotone 2, Beecher 1: Hannah Giroux scored off an assist from Daisy Barraza to pace visiting Beecher (5-6).

Bloom 7, Rich South 0: Hat tricks by Jasmin Villanueva and Jazmin Aldape paved the way for visiting Bloom (5-1, 3-0) in the Southland.

Boys Volleyball

St. Laurence 27-25, Argo 25-18: Tim Delaney dished out 15 assists and Bob Kelly posted eight kills to power host St. Laurence (5-12).

Joliet Catholic 25-25, Marian Catholic 14-15: Chandler Kowaliczko and Mitch Gustafson had nine and seven kills, respectively, for visiting Joliet Catholic (10-3, 1-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Zak Piekarski (12 assists) and Temitope Onayemi (7 kills) were the standouts for host Marian Catholic (6-12, 0-1).

Boys Tennis

Marian Catholic 5, Marist 0: Kyle Scheffers (No. 1) and Patrick Murday (No. 2) won their respective singles matches for host Marian Catholic (17-2, 4-0) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Lincoln-Way East 7, Bradley 0: Sam Scaletta and Jimmy Carroll notched a win at No. 4 doubles for host Lincoln-Way East (9-2, 4-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Andrew 6, Lincoln-Way North 1: Alan Wang and Austin Wabi prevailed at No. 1 doubles for host Andrew (4-2, 2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Thornwood co-op 0: Ryan Champlin notched a win at No. 1 singles for visiting Lincoln-Way Central (4-11, 1-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Illiana Christian 6, Fenton 1: Ben Van Til and Jason Eberly won their match at No. 1 doubles to lift visiting Illiana Christian (5-1) in the Metro Suburban.

Lemont 5, Shepard 0: Juan Diaz-Sanin and Ace Matthews (No. 2 doubles) were among the winners for visiting Lemont (7-2) in the South Suburban crossover.

Girls Water Polo

Lincoln-Way North 12, Metea Valley 3: Cassidy DeGraff’s seven goals directed visiting Lincoln-Way North.

Lincoln-Way East 12, Riverside-Brookfield 1: Haley McCabe racked up four goals and five steals to pace visiting Lincoln-Way East.

Girls Lacrosse

Marian Catholic 14, Marist 2: Celeste Friel’s seven goals boosted host Marian Catholic (5-4, 2-0) in the East Suburban Catholic.

College Baseball

Elgin 15, Joliet Junior College 14: T.J. Condon (5-for-6) hit a three-run homer and totaled five RBI to lead visiting Joliet Junior College (26-15).

Men’s Golf

CCAC Championship: Runner-up Kyle Bahnick (76-75) posted a two-round score of 151 as St. Xavier (618) edged Cardinal Stritch (625) for first place at George Dunne National in Oak Forest. Kirby Brown (157) also starred for the Cougars, who earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Men’s Tennis

CCAC Quarterfinal

St. Francis 9, Purdue-Calumet 0: Mark Zubov, Alex Haizel, Boris Peshev and Anders Sandberg were among the winners in singles and doubles for St. Francis (14-8) at Challenge Fitness in Lockport.

Women’s Softball

St. Xavier 3-6, Judson 1-1: By sweeping both games in the CCAC, host St. Xavier set a school record with its 21st consecutive win. Megan Nonnemacher (18-1) starred for the Cougars in the opener, tossing a five-hitter to tie the program record for career victories with 80. St. Xavier also established an NAIA record with 602⁄3 consecutive scoreless innings, a streak that was snapped in the top of the fourth. Shannon Lauret and Franchesca Graffeo notched RBI singles to lead the offense. Nicole Nonnemacher (16-2) fired a four-hitter and fanned 16 for St. Xavier in the nightcap.

Lewis 4-7, Wisconsin-Parkside 2-5: Brittany Russell (5-for-7, 3 runs) stroked two-run singles in each game to propel host Lewis (20-21, 14-14) in the Great Lakes Valley. The Flyers also prevailed 5-1 in 11 innings, the contest the completion of a suspended game from April 16. Carly Jaworski’s leadoff homer was the catalyst for a four-run outburst for Lewis.

St. Francis 8-6, Purdue-North Central 1-1: Tori Johnson’s two-run homer in the first inning put host St. Francis (17-17, 10-6) on its way to a sweep in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Lexi Southall also posted two RBI, while her sister, Kiley, went 3-for-4 with three runs. Caitlyn Balandis (10-7) allowed four hits and struck out nine in going the distance for the Saints. Torey Borkowski was among the standouts for St. Francis in Game 1, lashing a two-run single that opened the floodgates for a five-run burst in the opening frame. Lexi Southall chipped in two hits and two runs for the winners.

Trinity Christian 6-17, Robert Morris 3-0: Tori Grzincic went 4-for-4 with four RBI to pace visiting Trinity Christian (19-19, 9-7) in the first game of the CCAC doubleheader. Kaleigh Velasquez slammed a pair of three-run homers in Game 2 as the Trolls prevailed in five innings.

Correction: Monday’s roundup included the wrong winner pitcher for Reavis softball. Kim Baffin should have been given credit for the victory.
