Baseball

Lincoln-Way North 7, Thornwood 1: David Calderon gave up six hits and struck out eight in going the distance for host Lincoln-Way North (12-1, 4-0). Zach Hoekstra smashed a two-run double for the Phoenix and Austin Konagel scored twice.

Coal City 14, Illiana Christian 1: Caleb Jonkman (3-for-3) had an RBI double for visiting Illiana Christian (5-7) in the five-inning game.

Lemont 13, Eisenhower 3: Jake Latz slugged a two-run homer and Mike Wisz (3-for-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI) smashed a solo blast to power visiting Lemont (14-1, 7-0). Nick Wisz (2-for-2) added two runs and two RBI for the Indians in the six-inning South Suburban crossover. Anthony West had an RBI for Eisenhower.

De La Salle 17, Seton 0: Nelson Velazquez (2-hitter, 5 strikeouts) hurled a complete game and Joe Gazzi (2-for-2, 2 runs) had four RBI to spark visiting De La Salle (7-7, 4-5) in the five-inning Catholic League crossover.

Lockport 9, Joliet Central 0: Russ Hoh (5 innings, 5 hits, 8 strikeouts) and Austin Moralis combined to allow five hits and strike out 10 for host Lockport (9-9, 4-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Chris Grazioli launched a two-run homer for the Porters and Mike Formella added a two-run double.

Richards 12, Tinley Park 0: Angelo Smith spun a three-hitter and struck out four to lift host Richards (14-3, 9-0) in the five-inning South Suburban crossover. Noel Castro (2-for-3) had three RBI for the Bulldogs and Charlie Zeschke (3-for-3) chipped in two runs and two RBI. Zach Fitzgibbons, Conner Ceglarz and Steven Gonzalez had one hit apiece for Tinley Park.

Homewood-Flossmoor 13, Lincoln-Way East 11: Bryce Gray’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth capped a game-winning 10-run rally for Homewood-Flossmoor (10-3, 2-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Brian Christianson and Jack Dwyer each had two hits and two RBI for Lincoln-Way East (8-7, 1-3).

Andrean 5, Marist 0: Ryan Kairis went 2-for-3 to lead visiting Marist (8-8).

Oak Lawn 18, Hillcrest 2: Kevin Zurek (2-for-3) and Brandon Quillin each drove in two runs for host Oak Lawn (6-12, 5-3) in the five-inning South Suburban crossover.

Rich South 16, Rich East 5: Marcus Thompson (2-for-4) had three RBI and Micaiah Arriaga (2-for-2) scored three runs to lift visiting Rich South (3-8, 2-4) in the six-inning Southland game.

Lincoln-Way Central 16, Thornton 3: Tony Kestel (2-for-2) had four RBI and Ryan Earll clubbed a two-run homer to carry host Lincoln-Way Central (13-4, 4-0) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban Red affair. Ronnie Cross went 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI for Thornton (1-12, 0-4).

St. Ignatius 13, Bishop McNamara 2: Roger Wilson hit a two-run triple and Frank Greco (2-for-2, 2 runs) smashed a two-run single for visiting St. Laurence (16-2, 5-1). Kevin White (2-for-3) added three runs for the Vikings in the five-inning Catholic League crossover. Alex Hitney (2 earned runs) fanned eight in going the distance for the Vikings.

Crete-Monee 16, Bloom 6: General McArthur (3-for-5, 3 runs), Justin Kozinski (3-for-5, 2 runs) and Logan Kent (2-for-5) recorded three RBI apiece for visiting Crete-Monee (7-7, 5-1) in the Southland. Brandon Hickey (3-for-5) tacked on two runs and two RBI for the Warriors. David Metzner (2-for-3) finished with two runs and two RBI for Bloom (6-7, 5-1).

T.F. South 11, Argo 4: Brian Seymour (3-for-4) had two runs and two RBI for visiting T.F. South (11-6, 6-3) in the South Suburban crossover.

Mount Carmel 8, Clemente 1: Josh Stowers (2-for-4) and Scott Kapers had RBI to aid host Mount Carmel (15-2).

Sandburg 9, Bolingbrook 4: Matthias Dietz (2 earned runs) fired a four-hitter and struck out 12 to set the tone for visiting Sandburg (12-4, 4-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Jim Roche and Mike Jentel each provided two hits and two RBI for the Eagles.

Bremen 12, Shepard 5: Sean Grant (3-for-5) had four RBI and Tyler Banovich (6 strikeouts) threw a complete game to spur visiting Bremen (10-9, 3-5) in the South Suburban crossover.

Ag. Science 14, Morgan Park Academy 2: Rick Flores went 2-for-3 with three RBI to help visiting Ag. Science (15-3) prevail in the five-inning contest.

Andrew 10, Thornridge 0: Tom Bushnell tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11 to pace visiting Andrew (6-9, 2-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. John McLaughlin led the offense by going 4-for-4 with three RBI.

Reavis 10, T.F. North 5: Lael Robles (1-hitter, 8 strikeouts) tossed four scoreless innings and also drove in two runs to pace host Reavis (7-10, 4-4) in the South Suburban crossover.

Rich Central 10, Kankakee 0: Demetrius Todd (2-for-3) had a homer and three RBI to lead visiting Rich Central (8-4, 4-2) in the Southland.

Softball

Joliet Catholic 6, Coal City 4: Alyssa Callans starred on the mound (6-hitter, 5 strikeouts) and at the plate (4-for-5, 2 runs) to boost visiting Joliet Catholic (7-8). Josie Henderson added two RBI for the Angels.

Lockport 5, Homewood-Flossmoor 0: Kalyn Putman allowed five hits and fanned nine in going the route for host Lockport (10-4-1, 3-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Sarah DeMasi (2-for-3) blasted a two-run homer and totaled three RBI for the Porters. Morgan Williams had two hits for Homewood-Flossmoor (4-8, 2-2).

Rich East 10, Rich Central 0: Cayla Brown struck out 16 in pitching a complete game for host Rich East (6-6, 2-4) in the five-inning Southland contest.

Lincoln-Way West 6, Lincoln-Way North 3: Rachael Luckett (3-for-4, 4 RBI) hit a two-run homer and Carly Souder added a solo shot to propel visiting Lincoln-Way West (15-1, 4-0). Morghan Dieringer tossed a six-hitter and fanned 12 for the Warriors in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Haley Ruch hit a two-run single for Lincoln-Way North (7-4, 3-1) and Taylor Bowman belted a solo homer.

Shepard 11, Eisenhower 3: Alex Joiner drilled a three-run homer and Nikki Alex (complete game) struck out eight to vault host Shepard (10-5, 6-5) in the South Suburban Red.

Oak Forest 3, T.F. South 2: Taylor Sterkowitz’s ninth-inning double scored Kylie Powers with the winning run for visiting Oak Forest (13-4, 7-1) in the South Suburban Blue. Corrina Boersma (5-2) pitched a complete game for the Bengals. T.F. South slipped to 11-4, 8-3.

Mother McAuley 4, Marian Catholic 0: Emily Rux and Jen Crowley hit RBI doubles and Amy Balich added a run-scoring single to ignite host Mother McAuley (11-3). Holly Marousek gave up four hits in pitching a complete game for the Mighty Macs. Emily Montalvo’s two hits led Marian Catholic (6-6).

Andrew 13, Bradley 3: Kayla Noble hit two two-run doubles for visiting Andrew (12-4, 3-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Kara Meter (3-for-4) tacked on three RBI for the Thunderbolts.

Hanover (Ind.) Central 5, Beecher 3: Sarah Crews (2-for-4) posted a double and two RBI for host Beecher (16-5).

Lincoln-Way Central 17, Thornwood 1: Nicole Rote (4-for-4) blasted a three-run homer and totaled six RBI to steer host Lincoln-Way Central (10-5, 3-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Hannah Dallio struck out 10 in pitching all five innings for the Knights.

Lemont 10, T.F. North 0: Lauren Young (3 innings) and Anna Smagacz combined on a two-hitter for visiting Lemont (13-4, 8-2) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue game.

De La Salle 14, Regina 6: Kaity Krol and Ashley Trendle connected for home runs for visiting De La Salle (10-3, 2-3) in the GCAC Red.

Crete-Monee 10, Rich South 6: Home runs by Megan Comise and Ashley Bartlett led visiting Crete-Monee (8-3, 5-1). Abby King added five stolen bases for the Warriors in the Southland.

Oak Lawn 7, Argo 6: Kaleigh Hayes’ RBI in the bottom of the eighth boosted Oak Lawn (7-8) in the South Suburban Red.

Girls Soccer

Bloom 2, Crete-Monee 0: Andi Hernandez and Jasmin Villanueva scored for host Bloom (7-1, 4-0) in the Southland. Jasmin Aldape tacked on two assists for the Blazing Trojans. Crete-Monee fell to 4-7, 2-1.

Lemont 1, Downers Grove North 0: Carly Bermele (goal) and Kelly Fritz (6 saves) were the standouts for visiting Lemont (8-0-1).

Shepard 2, Argo 0: Tiffani Kotas and Christina Kotas scored for visiting Shepard (8-4-1, 5-2) in the South Suburban Red.

Gordon Tech 4, De La Salle 3: Alexes Castaneda, Marti Botica and Maggie Roche were the goal scorers for host De La Salle (2-5, 2-1) in the GCAC White.

Lincoln-Way West 2, Bradley 0: Emily Wyskiel notched a goal and an assist for host Lincoln-Way West (12-2, 1-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Oak Forest 6, Bremen 1: Rachel Valente and Rebecca Gibbons scored two goals apiece for host Oak Forest (7-8, 4-3) in the South Suburban Blue.

Mount Assisi 4, St. Francis de Sales 0: Kathy Sojka posted a goal and three assists to ignite visiting Mount Assisi in the GCAC White.

Lockport 2, Joliet Central 0: Samantha Calderaro had both goals for host Lockport (3-5-4, 1-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Stagg 5, Joliet West 2: Hannah Henderson and Erin O’Leary were among the goal scorers for host Stagg (4-4-2, 2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

T.F. United 4, Richards 0: Monica Munoz and Jackie Casillas each scored twice for visiting T.F. United (6-5) in the South Suburban crossover.

Tinley Park 6, Oak Lawn 0: Ellie Carillo’s hat trick guided visiting Tinley Park (8-2, 6-0) in the South Suburban crossover.

Naperville Invitational

Sandburg 2, Benet 1: Jayna Kozlowski and Rachel Mokersky netted goals for Sandburg (7-2-1) at Wheaton North.

Boys Volleyball

Shepard 25-26-25, T.F. United 23-28-18: Ivan Magana’s nine kills led visiting Shepard (6-12, 1-2) in the South Suburban crossover.

Joliet Catholic 25-25, Marist 20-18: Aron Goeken had 21 assists and Blake Reardon 16 kills to lead host Joliet Catholic (11-3, 2-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Jake Morgan registered 12 kills for Marist and Tim Hauser added 11 assists.

Boys Tennis

Lincoln-Way East 7, Lincoln-Way Central 0: Rohan Piska, Nikhil Piska and Jonathan Thomas posted singles wins for visiting Lincoln-Way East (13-2, 5-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Brother Rice 5, St. Laurence 0: Liam Millerick prevailed at No. 1 singles for host Brother Rice in the Catholic League.

Lemont 4, Richards 1: Joe Ziebell and Nathaniel Burner (No. 1 doubles) were among the winners for host Lemont (8-2) in the South Suburban crossover.

Girls Track & Field

Hinsdale South Invitational: Ninaa Edwards won the 100-meter hurdles (16.13 seconds), 300 hurdles (48.24) and triple jump (33 feet, 111/2 inches) in leading Rich South (122 points) to second place behind Bolingbrook (134.5) in the eight-team meet. Ashley Dennis won the discus (102 feet, 10 inches) for sixth-place Rich East (57).

College Baseball

Joliet Junior College 12, Waubonsee 8: T.J. Condon (2-for-5) had a triple and two RBI for visiting Joliet Junior College (27-15).

South Suburban 12, North Central 0: Steve Letz went 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI to power host South Suburban (24-14). Jordan Davis added a three-run homer for the Bulldogs. Ryan Novak scattered five hits and struck out six in going the distance for the winners.

Women’s Softball

St. Francis 3-3, Trinity Christian 0-4: Caitlyn Balandis tossed a four-hitter and also delivered a two-run double to lead visiting St. Francis (18-18, 11-7) in Game 1 of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. Trinity Christian (21-21, 11-9) rebounded in the nightcap behind Bailan Reynolds, who provided a two-run double and a sacrifice fly.

Olivet Nazarene 5-2, St. Xavier 2-2: Katie Sears and Nicole Nonnemacher had RBI for St. Xavier (37-4-1, 17-2-1), which had its school-record 21-game winning streak end in the opener of the CCAC doubleheader. Amanda Hainlen slammed a two-run homer for St. Xavier in Game 2, which was halted by darkness after eight innings. Nicole Nommemacher struck out 10 in going the distance for the Cougars, who finished second to the hosts in the conference standings.

Women’s Golf

CCAC Championship: St. Xavier’s Taylor Thompson (81-79) shot a 160 over two rounds to win medalist honors at Gleneagles in Lemont. Olivet Nazarene (671) won the team title by 26 strokes over runner-up St. Francis. The Saints were led by Krystal Garritson (167), who tied for fourth. Cardinal Stritch (736), Holy Cross College (756) and St. Xavier (785) also competed.
