Girls Soccer: Three things learned

1. Lemont is rolling. The Indians remain unbeaten, and any team looking to hand them their first loss will have to bring a strong effort. Lemont earned a big 1-0 win Saturday over Downers Grove South as Kim Jerantowski scored and Kelly Fritz continued her dominance with eight saves in a shutout. The Indians host Evergreen Park on Tuesday and travel Thursday to Downers Grove North before hosting Lincoln-Way West in an important contest Saturday.

2. Tinley Park is clutch. The Titans earned a huge win in last week’s South Suburban crossover against Shepard when Jess Ganica scored in the second overtime. Tinley Park has had a flair for the dramatic in its biggest games. Earlier in the season, the Titans beat Providence 3-2 when Carolina Carrillo completed a hat trick with 23 seconds left in regulation. They also topped Lincoln-Way East in a shootout.

3. Challengers are sought in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Outside of Sandburg, it remains to be seen who’ll step up in what figures to be an interesting season in the Blue. Defending champion Lockport can’t be counted out, but still is trying to find its offense. Stagg started slowly, but earned a big conference-opening win over Bolingbrook. Despite the loss, the Raiders still cold be a factor. Joliet Central and Joliet West are mysteries, and injury-plagued Homewood-Flossmoor has struggled mightily.
