De La Salle has put together a solid season. After winning nine games in 2013, the Meteors are 13-9 after finishing fourth over the weekend at the Brother Rice Tournament.
“The kids are stepping up,” De La Salle coach Beto Garcia said. “We still have a problem with inconsistency, though. (In the third-place game against Waubonsie Valley), we had one bad quarter and it killed us. This was one of the best tournaments we play in all year. It’s a good measuring stick of where we are.”
De La Salle has key wins over Stagg, Brother Rice and St. Rita.
The Meteors have been led by juniors Roberto Rodriguez and Omar Gomez and senior Jeremy Siegel.
De La Salle is seeded second behind the host Wolfpack in the St. Ignatius Sectional. St. Ignatius beat the Meteors 13-6 on April 3.
“It’s going to be a tough game between us and St. Ignatius, but we have the potential to do it,” Garcia said. “We definitely have a shot.”
