Despite suffering its first conference loss of the season Wednesday at the hands of Lincoln-Way East – a 7-6 defeat in what could be a preview of the Lincoln-Way Central Sectional final – Andrew is on the verge of locking up the SouthWest Suburban Red title.
With an 8-1 conference record, the Thunderbolts (17-5 overall) have a two-game lead over Lincoln-Way Central. The two meet Tuesday in New Lenox, and Andrew can clinch at least a share of the Red crown with a win.
“We definitely want to win the conference title,” Andrew’s Megan Hofer said. “We’ve had that as one of our goals all season. Then we want to go on and win the sectional and get to state.”
The conference crown would be Andrew’s first since 2011. A state bid would be the program’s first.
Lincoln-Way East, meanwhile, also has an 8-1 league mark and is looking to hold off Sandburg (6-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.
