With several weeks still left in the season, Bloom’s teams already have times and distances worthy of the state meet.

From the April 10 Hillcrest Hawk Classic to last week’s invitationals, Bloom’s Jonah Wiley, James Harriel and Daylen Hubbard were among the best while Brittany Thomas achieved the same for her squad.

Wiley won the 110-meter hurdles at Hillcrest (14.46 seconds) and among an elite field at the Midwest Prep Invitational (14.63). Wiley took the long jump at Midwest with a 23-foot, 6-inch leap, a state final distance.

“We started off our season strong, so we plan on finishing strong,’’ Wiley said.

Saturday, the winning 400 relay of Hubbard, Wiley, Anthony Paden and Harriel clocked a blistering 42.46 in the Winston Brown Invitational at Edwardsville.

Harriel won the 400 in 49.18, another state final time, while Hubbard and Wiley were 1-2 in the 110 hurdles.

For the girls, Thomas ran 12.41 for third in the 100 at the Midwest Prep meet. She won the 100 (12.59) and the 200 (25.49) at the April 25 Lockport Invitational.

Both teams will face the best Saturday. The girls will race defending 3A champion Lincoln-Way East at Thornton. The boys are in a strong field that includes 2013 state champ Lake Park in the Jim Arnold Invitational at Glenbard West.

Boys: Getting back on track

Marist hasn’t won an East Suburban Catholic track title in 15 years, but the RedHawks appear headed in the right direction.

Marist won the Oak Lawn Invitational and took third at the Riverside-Brookfield Relays and Brother Rice Relays.

A few top individuals include Adam Miller and Marcus Pitts in the shot put and discus, respectively, sprinter Victor Ogbebor, Tomas House in the high jump, hurdler/pole vaulter Richie Castro and sophomore Darshon McCullough, whose 43-6 triple jump is a school record.

The 3,200 relay team of Luke Haberkorn, Luke McGovern, Kyle Haberkorn and Mike Conrad has yet to lose this season.
