Lincoln-Way West 16, Thornridge 0: Jake Robbins’ two-run single and Luke Morgan’s two-run triple sparked a seven-run outburst in the first inning for visiting Lincoln-Way West (21-0, 7-0). Dan Brokop (2-for-3) tacked on three runs and two RBI for the Warriors in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban Red contest. Frank Mulder (3 innings) and Richard Yelnick combined to allow one hit and strike out 12 for the victors.
Lincoln-Way East 7, Stagg 3: Kenichi Haynie (3-for-4) had three RBI to power host Lincoln-Way East (9-11, 2-5) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Aaron Perch (2-for-4) chipped in two runs and two RBI for the Griffins. Max Strus (3-for-4) hit an RBI double for Stagg (7-13, 3-4) and Drew Bolero tacked on a run-scoring single.
Andrean 4, Brother Rice 0: Ryan Kutt (4-2) gave up two earned runs over six innings for Brother Rice (18-6). Andrew Dyke, Erich Lieser and Danny Beese garnered singles for the Crusaders at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary.
Morgan Park 20, Jones 8: Jamal Martin (2-for-3, 3 runs) launched a three-run homer and finished with five RBI to vault host Morgan Park (12-3-1, 5-0-1) in the five-inning game. Devon Jones (2-for-2, RBI) added four runs for the Mustangs in the Jackie Robinson South.
Lincoln-Way Central 3, Bradley 2: Collin Brauer scored on Pat Michalak’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Lincoln-Way Central (16-5, 7-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Kevin Mampe (earned run) pitched a complete game for the Knights in addition to bashing a two-run double.
Homewood-Flossmoor 7, Lockport 2: Cole Tronsen ripped a two-run double and Jonathan Brandt scored two runs to carry visiting Homewood-Flossmoor (13-4, 4-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Vikings pitcher Malcolm Grady (2 earned runs) scattered three hits and struck out six through six innings. Tyler Hair hit an RBI double for Lockport (11-11, 6-1) and Lorenzo Blazekovich added a run-scoring single.
Lincoln-Way North 24, Thornton 2: Taylor Bowman (3-for-3, 3 runs) hit two homers and finished with six RBI for host Lincoln-Way North (10-6, 5-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Sam Pietruszynski (3-for-4, 2 runs) added a two-run shot and three RBI for the Phoenix in the five-inning tilt. Anna Wheatley gave up one earned run and struck out eight in pitching a complete game for the winners.
Lincoln-Way Central 18, Thornridge 0: Hannah Dallio starred on the mound (1-hitter, 12 strikeouts) and at the plate (2-for-4, 2 runs) for visiting Lincoln-Way Central (12-7, 5-1) in the five-inning game. Bree Schultz (2-for-3, 2 runs) posted two RBI for the Knights, who also received three runs apiece from Jackie Farbak, Naidelyn Medina and Alyssa Klahn in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Chicago Christian 3, Wheaton Academy 0: Davina Gutierrez (6-8) struck out 10 in firing a complete game for visiting Chicago Christian (7-9, 3-4) in the Suburban Christian Blue. Sam Kubik (2-for-3, 3 RBI) stroked a two-run single for the Knights and Trisha Belgrave (2-for-3) scored twice.
Lockport 4, Stagg 0: Kalyn Putman (7 strikeouts) tossed a four-hitter and Gabby Voulgaris delivered a two-run single to spark visiting Lockport (14-5-1, 5-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Alexis Minet contributed a double for Stagg (2-11, 1-6).
Loyola 13, Queen of Peace 3: Jasmine Escobedo hit a three-run homer for host Queen of Peace (3-12, 0-7) in the six-inning GCAC Red contest.
Beecher 3, Reed-Custer 2: Jordyn Miner, Hannah Giroux and Sam Stolzenbach netted goals for host Beecher (8-8, 3-3). Daisy Barraza added two assists for the Bobcats in the River Valley.
Brine Tournament of Champions
Lockport 4, Peoria Christian 0: Brooke Janeczek scored twice to lead Lockport (5-6-4) in Burlington, Iowa. Sam Calderaro and Courtney Hackett also netted goals for the Porters, who opened with a 2-0 loss to Belleville East.
Homewood-Flossmoor 1, Belleville East 0 (SO): Fallon Perl scored the winning goal for Homewood-Flossmoor (5-10), which held a 4-2 edge in the penalty-kick shootout. Quincy O’Malley recorded the shutout.
South Suburban 6-5, Oakton 2-4: Dom Albanese’s sixth-inning single scored Nick Kellams as host South Suburban (30-16) completed the sweep. Justin Pasko allowed six hits and struck out seven in pitching a complete game for the Bulldogs in the opener. Cody Moskovski (2-for-3) scored two runs for South Suburban and Steve Letz contributed an RBI double.
Men’s Track & Field
Great Lakes Valley Championships: Lewis’ Andrew McLain set meet record in winning the 10,000-meter run (31 minutes, 11.10 seconds). Missouri S&T (58 points) finished the opening day in first place among the 11 teams. Indianapolis (45) was second and host Lewis (36) third.
St. Xavier 7, Calumet 1: Megan James belted a two-run homer to guide host St. Xavier (43-5-1). Nicole Nonnemacher (19-3) fanned nine in 3 1/3 hitless innings of relief.
Olivet Nazarene 13, Trinity Christian 5: Tori Grzincic’s three-run double highlighted a five-run second inning for Trinity Christian (24-24) in the championship bracket.
St. Francis 5, Cardinal Stritch 2: Lexi Southall (2-for-4) hit a two-run homer and Jessica Kuester (2-for-3) added a solo shot to boost St. Francis (21-19) in the consolation bracket. Caitlyn Balandis (13-8) surrendered one earned run and struck out seven in pitching a complete game for the Saints.
Trinity Christian 4, Cardinal Stritch 3: Adrianna Puente scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to propel Trinity Christian in the first round. Tori Grzincic was the offensive standout for the Trolls, swatting a two-run double and an RBI single. Mattie McGuire (8-8) fanned seven in going the distance for the winners.
Calumet 4, St. Francis 1: Jessica Kuester’s fourth-inning single scored Kaley Jendraszak with the run for St. Francis in the opening round.
Illinois-Springfield 3, Lewis 1: Kimmy Teats hit a sixth-inning homer for Lewis (23-24) in its season finale.
Truman State 10, Lewis 7: Alyssa Moseley (2-for-4, 2 runs), Carly Jaworski and Carolyn Nojiri each had two RBI for Lewis in the opening-round contest in East Peoria.
Women’s Track & Field
GLVC Championships: Host Lewis (39) trailed only Indianapolis (63) after the first day of competition in the 11-team meet. Chantel Stennis was among the standouts for the Flyers, setting an NCAA Provisional mark en route to a first-place finish in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash (24.22 seconds). Rebecca Priesler was second in the pole vault (12 feet, 1¼ inches) for Lewis, while Rachel Marchildon was runner-up in the 100 hurdles (14.24)
