Girls Soccer: Three Things Learned

1. Lemont and Tinley Park are set for a showdown. Both teams entered Monday perfect in conference play, with Lemont 8-0 and Tinley Park 9-0. They’ll meet at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Tinley Park with the South Suburban Blue title likely on the line. Lemont has won every Blue title since the conference’s formation in 2006. The Indians also will host the Lemont Cup this weekend, welcoming top 10 teams Sandburg, Andrew and Lincoln-Way East and state power Waubonsie Valley.

2. Mount Assisi is looking for a strong finish. With the school set to close at the end of the school year, the Eagles are hoping for a memorable final season. After a pair of wins last week, the Eagles entered Monday with a 7-7-1 overall record and 5-1 conference mark and were in the hunt for the GCAC White title. Bridget Melody and Mary Kate Wetzel have had strong seasons.

3. There is plenty of intrigue in the Andrew Sectional. Seeds and pairings were released last week. Most of the area’s Class 3A teams will compete at Andrew, where Lincoln-Way North was awarded the top seed over Sandburg. Andrew, Lincoln-Way East and Shepard round out the top five. The Griffins and Astros could square off in an intriguing regional final at East. Other interesting regional final possibilities include Andrew vs. Marist, Lincoln-Way North vs. Bloom and Sandburg vs. Reavis or Stagg.
