Baseball

Marist 5, Downers Grove North 4: Pat Meehan scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to cap a two-run rally for Marist (16-11). Blake Bieniek (2-for-4, run) chipped in two RBI for the RedHawks.

Lincoln-Way North 3, Bradley 0: Kyle Ostrowski scattered two singles and struck out 14 in hurling a complete game for host Lincoln-Way North (20-2, 10-1). Mike Rissley and Nick Garcia posted RBI singles for the Phoenix and Josh Mutter lined a run-scoring double in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

St. Laurence 4, Brother Rice 2: Brad Wood (6 innings) fanned eight and also smashed a two-run double to key visiting St. Laurence (26-3, 13-2) in the Catholic League Blue. Kyle Hilliard and Danny Paluch recorded RBI for Brother Rice (22-9, 10-5).

Beecher 9, Tri-Point 1: Cameron Morgan struck out 12 in firing a no-hitter for host Beecher (16-10, 10-1) in the River Valley. Tanner Saddler (2-for-2) led the offense with a two-run double and two-run homer.

Lincoln-Way West 2, Lincoln-Way Central 1: Adam Knerr’s RBI single and Luke Morgan’s run-scoring double – both in the fifth inning – elevated host Lincoln-Way West (24-4, 9-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Morgan also garnered the victory after surrendering two hits and striking out 10 in six innings. Sean Barry had an RBI groundout for Lincoln-Way Central (18-9, 9-2).

Lemont 10, Argo 3: Mike Gralla’s three-run homer in the top of the fifth highlighted a seven-run spree for Lemont (24-2, 14-1) in the South Suburban crossover. Mike Papierski added a two-run shot earlier in the frame for the Indians. Kevin Trojek struck out six in six innings to notch the victory. Brendan Krob posted a two-run homer for Argo.

Illiana Christian 2, Glenbard South 1: Lucas Miedema’s ninth-inning double scored Brett Detmar with the winning run for visiting Illiana Christian (11-14, 10-4) in the Metro Suburban. Caleb Jonkman (unearned run) surrendered seven hits in pitching a complete game for the Vikings.

Ag. Science 11, Kennedy 3: Mike Cassidy starred on the mound (4-hitter) and at the plate (3-run HR) to lead host Ag. Science (24-5, 14-3) in the Public League Sammie Sosa.

Andrew 13, Thornton 0: Tom Bushnell had two runs and two RBI for visiting Andrew (9-16, 4-7) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Ramon Gonzales gave up two hits and fanned six in going the route for the Thunderbolts.

Providence 7, Loyola 6: Jake Godfrey came in on Cam Calgano’s seventh-inning single to win it for Providence (18-11, 8-6) in the Catholic League Blue. Ben Salvador added two RBI for the Celtics.

Homewood-Flossmoor 6, Joliet Central 1: Malcolm Grady (7 strikeouts) pitched six innings of two-hit ball to spark visiting Homewood-Flossmoor (20-5, 8-4) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. James Sheehan (2-for-3) bashed a two-run single for the Vikings and Bobby Meagher (2-for-2, RBI) scored two runs.

Lockport 3, Stagg 2: Pinch-runner Dakota Dunstan scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to pace Lockport (13-15, 8-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Russ Hoh added a game-tying triple with two outs in the seventh for the Porters. Noah Massa allowed five hits and struck out seven in pitching a complete game for the winners. Colangelo Martinez contributed an RBI single for Stagg (12-15, 6-5).

De La Salle 5, Gordon Tech 2: Glenn Kubek blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to carry De La Salle (18-9, 13-6) in the Catholic League White.

Joliet West 6, Sandburg 0: Jim Landgraf’s double was one of just four hits recorded by host Sandburg (19-6, 9-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Lincoln-Way East 11, Bolingbrook 3: Evan Sandmann (2-for-2) scored four runs to aid visiting Lincoln-Way East (16-13, 6-6) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Benet 5, Marian Catholic 4: Michael Bainbridge went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to set the tone for visiting Marian Catholic (14-15, 6-8) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Oak Lawn 4, Shepard 1: Matt Witkowski (unearned run) pitched a complete game and Joe Dodaro (2-for-4) chalked up two RBI to show the way for visiting Oak Lawn (9-20, 8-8) in the South Suburban Red. Shepard fell to 11-14, 8-8.

Bremen 1, Tinley Park 0: Tyler Banovich (2-hitter) pitched a complete game and also scored on Ryan Lynch’s sixth-inning single to lead visiting Bremen (20-11, 11-5) in the South Suburban Blue. Kanon Saavedra yielded three hits in going the route for Tinley Park (10-13, 5-11).

Joliet Catholic 8-4, Nazareth 1-4: Alec Melone’s two-run double was instrumental for host Joliet Catholic (23-6, 10-4) in the second game of the East Suburban Catholic doubleheader. Nick Dalesandro (61/3 innings) scattered five hits and struck out seven before giving way to Danny Ehrsam, who notched the save. Danny Weiss’ two-run double in the top of the eighth broke a 4-all tie as the Hilltoppers took the opener, which had been suspended after seven innings on Monday.

Softball

Providence 10, Joliet Catholic 1: Maeve Garvey (3-for-4, 5 RBI) stroked a two-run single and a two-run triple to propel visiting Providence (16-12, 10-6) in the East Suburban Catholic. Courtney Pych (3-for-4) added three runs for the Celtics to support Kendal Judge, who tossed a five-hitter and struck out eight. Josie Henderson racked up an RBI for Joliet Catholic (9-19, 3-13).

Lincoln-Way East 13, Stagg 3: Blake Ruiz hit a three-run homer and Nikole Van Gennep swatted a two-run shot to power visiting Lincoln-Way East (19-7, 6-4) in the five-inning tilt. Jenny Van Geertry (2-for-3) tacked on three runs for the Griffins in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Emily Abbene registered two RBI for Stagg (2-15, 1-10).

Lockport 2, Homewood-Flossmoor 1: Grace Lancman allowed three hits and fanned five in going the route for visiting Lockport (21-7-1, 8-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Kelly Pattison clubbed a solo homer for the Porters and also scored the winning run on Gabby Voulgaris’ sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Olivia Dau walloped a home run for Homewood-Flossmoor (8-14, 4-7).

Lincoln-Way Central 21, Thornwood 3: Jackie Farbak (3-for-4, 2 runs) generated six RBI and Hannah Dallio (1-hitter, 11 strikeouts) tossed a complete game to boost visiting Lincoln-Way Central (15-13, 8-4) in the five-inning affair. Colleen McLaughlin (4-for-5) and Rach Soch (2-for-3) scored four runs apiece for the Knights in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Sandburg 12, Joliet Central 1: Emily Driskell and Sarah Herold each posted a home run and two RBI for host Sandburg (16-11, 7-4) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban Blue tilt.

Oak Forest 7, Oak Lawn 6: Courtney Schwenkel’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth vaulted Oak Forest (20-7, 12-3) in the South Suburban crossover. Taylor Sterkowitz (2-for-4, 2 runs) tacked on a home run and three RBI for the Bengals. Oak Lawn slipped to 13-15, 8-9.

Andrew 5, Bradley 1: Kayla Plastiak (3-for-4) drilled a two-run homer to ignite host Andrew (21-7, 9-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Madison Sherwood (8-1) struck out nine in going the distance for the Thunderbolts.

T.F. South 16, T.F. North 1: Tiambris Tate (2-for-3) smacked a grand slam and totaled six RBI to power visiting T.F. South (16-6, 11-5) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue contest.

Tinley Park 7, Lemont 3: Kate Sebastian put in two RBI and Annalisse Scott (5 strikeouts) pitched a complete game to lead host Tinley Park (17-4, 15-2) in the South Suburban Blue. Rylie Jay delivered a home run and three RBI for Lemont (17-9, 10-4).

Crete-Monee 19, Rich Central 0: Abby King doubled and drove in five runs to direct host Crete-Monee (13-6, 8-2) in the five-inning Southland game. Savannah Kiel threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 for the Warriors.

Shepard 10, Reavis 0: Jenna Huisenga smashed a two-run single during a six-run third inning for host Shepard (17-7, 11-6). Melissa Kelly was touched for two hits in going all five innings. Ashley Galason swatted a double for Reavis (12-15, 8-9).

Girls Soccer

Bloom 3, Crete-Monee 1: Jasmin Villanueva, Jazmin Aldape and Andi Hernandez each posted one goal and one assist to help visiting Bloom (14-1, 9-0) capture the Southland championship.

Homewood-Flossmoor 1, Marian Catholic 1: Abby Kresal set up Hailey Losselyong on the goal for host Marian Catholic (7-13-4). Kristy Spratt scored for Homewood-Flossmoor (7-13-1), with the assist going to Jessie Winkler.

Lincoln-Way North 2, Lincoln-Way Central 1: Rachel Pappas’ two goals enabled visiting Lincoln-Way North (17-3-1, 6-0) to win the SouthWest Suburban Red title for the fifth year in a row.

Boys Volleyball

Notre Dame 25-25, Marian Catholic 17-21: Zak Pierkarski dished out 17 assists and Temi Onayemi put down eight kills to lead host Marian Catholic (6-16, 0-7) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Brother Rice 25-25, Mount Carmel 11-22: Dan Hayes (14 assists) and Kevin Myren (10 kills) were at the forefront for host Brother Rice in the Catholic League Blue (26-2, 10-0).

Boys Water Polo

St. Ignatius Sectional

De La Salle 13, Von Steuben 3: Danny Pedro’s five goals paced De La Salle in the quarterfinal.

Stagg Sectional

Stagg 21, Mount Carmel 7: Connor Kaufmann and Zack Amendola each produced four first-half goals to boost Stagg in quarterfinal play. Danny Luchsinger scored four times to lead Mount Carmel.

Brother Rice 24, Shepard co-op 6: Dan Birmingham and James Ryan netted six goals apiece in starring for Brother Rice.

St. Rita 20, Morgan Park 6: Joe Qualter finished with four goals to spur St. Rita. Christian Cooper had four goals for Morgan Park.

College Baseball

NAIA Opening Round

Gwinnett 11, St. Francis 8: Luke Wyss (3-for-6) had three RBI to lead St. Francis (38-22) in its season finale in Lawrenceville, Georgia. David Kuhne (3-for-5) and Kyle Burton (2-for-4) added two runs apiece for the Saints.

NCCAA World Series

Oklahoma Christian 4, Trinity Christian 3: Zac Cobble scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th to lift No. 1 seed Oklahoma Christian (38-15) in the opening round of pool play in Mason, Ohio. Joe McCaw’s RBI single in the ninth enabled eighth-seeded Trinity Christian (26-21) to send the game into extra innings. J.T. Yokum (3-for-5) hit a second-inning double to open the scoring and Peter Krygsheld added a single in the fifth that extended the Trolls’ advantage to 2-0.

Men’s Golf

NAIA Championship: St. Xavier’s James Kerr (145) held a share of 13th place after two rounds at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. Kerr carded a 2-over 74, putting him seven shots behind leader Jose Pablo Rolz of Texas Wesleyan. Kyle Bahnick (152) also contributed for the Cougars (608), who finished the day tied for 20th with Midland. Faulkner (575) held the top spot in the 29-team meet.

Women’s Softball

NAIA Opening Round

Lindsey Wilson 4, St. Xavier 3: Savannah Kinsella stroked a two-run single and Katie Sears scored two runs to pace St. Xavier (47-9-1) in the championship. Nicole Nonnemacher (21-6) struck out seven in pitching a complete game for the Cougars in Columbia, Kentucky.

Women’s Tennis

NCAA Division II Tournament

Columbus State 5, Lewis 1: Zsofia Lanstiak and Ana Banic won at No. 2 doubles for Lewis (16-5), which was eliminated in the Round of 16 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
