Lincoln-Way East coach Ryan Lodes knew that slowing down Andrew’s offense began with slowing down T-bolts star Megan Hofer.
“Megan is a great player,” Lodes said. “I’ve worked with her in the offseason and I know how good she is. We just wanted to make sure everybody helped down in the middle on her.”
The Griffins shut out Hofer and kept Andrew off the scoreboard for nearly 14 minutes from late in the second quarter until late in the fourth as they pulled away for a 9-5 win in the Lincoln-Way Central Sectional championship.
It was a wild weekend for East’s girls, many of whom beat Lincoln-Way North in the sectional semifinal early Friday evening, attended the school’s prom Friday night and were back in the pool Saturday afternoon to take down Andrew.
“I’m really happy with the way the girls handled it,” Lodes said. “They went to prom, they had a curfew and they got here (Saturday) ready to play.”
