Crete-Monee 12, Rich South 1: Matt Sonntag’s two-run homer in the top of the fifth capped an eight-run explosion for Crete-Monee (17-11, 12-2) in the Southland. Sonntag also gave up one unearned run on five hits tossing a complete game for the Warriors, who clinched at least a share of the conference title. Brandon Hickey added a two-run double and three RBI for the winners. Josh Colbert contributed a run for Rich South (5-14, 3-10).
Oak Forest 9, T.F. North 1: Joe Funkhouser went the distance and also hit a three-run homer for host Oak Forest (23-7, 14-3) in the South Suburban Blue. DeAngelo Mitchell had the RBI for T.F. North (9-21, 3-14).
Reavis 13, Eisenhower 0: Jorge Hernandez starred on the mound (3-hitter, 7 strikeouts) and at the plate (3-for-3, 3 RBI) to guide visiting Reavis (14-17, 10-8) in the six-inning game. Joe O’Hara (3-for-3) had four runs and two RBI for the Rams in the South Suburban Red. Gabriel Onate, Zac Cozzi and Cristian Diaz de Sandy had hits for Eisenhower.
Lincoln-Way West 9, Thornton 0: Ryan Hastings (3-for-3) drove in four runs to spur host Lincoln-Way West (26-4, 11-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Luke Morgan (4 innings) scattered one hit and struck out six in notching the victory. Fred Johnson went 2-for-2 to lead Thornton.
Illiana Christian 5, Fenton 1: Lucas Miedema (5 strikeouts) pitched a complete game and also went 3-for-4 with an RBI single for visiting Illiana Christian (13-15, 12-4). Caleb Jonkman (2-for-4) tacked on two RBI for the Vikings in the Metro Suburban.
Providence 10, Aurora Central Catholic 1: Dylan Rosa (2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI) blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning to cap an eight-run outburst for visiting Providence (21-11). Mike Madej (4-for-4) added two runs and two RBI for the Celtics.
Mount Carmel 5, Marist 4: Ako Thomas’ two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth lifted Mount Carmel (24-6). Scott Kapers (2-for-3) and A.J. Lewis each had one run and one RBI for the Caravan. Blake Bieniek collected an RBI single for Marist (16-13).
St. Laurence 7, Manteno 0: Brad Wood (6 strikeouts) pitched five innings of three-hit ball and also had an RBI double to key host St. Laurence (27-4). Mike Kornacker (2-for-4) added a pair of RBI singles for the Vikings.
St. Rita 7, Downers Grove South 6: Tyler Halas’ two-run double was part of a six-run third inning for host St. Rita (29-3). Jake Shepski (1-for-4) also had two RBI for the Mustangs, who received two hits and two runs from Danny Gleaves.
De La Salle 12, Benet 4: Jalen Davis (2-for-4, 3 runs) and Joe Gazzi (1-for-4, 2 runs) hit two-run triples for visiting De La Salle (20-9). Tom Duddleston (2-for-3, RBI) added three runs for the Meteors.
Evergreen Park 7, Shepard 1: Ronnie O’Toole, Mike Rizzo and Sean Miller hit two-run doubles to ignite host Evergreen Park (19-9 12-5) in the South Suburban Red. Brian Pall (5-2) pitched six innings of one-hit ball for the Mustangs.
Kankakee 1, Bloom 0: Nick Carlson pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 in going the distance for host Bloom in the Southland (10-15, 8-5).
Lockport 3, Lincoln-Way East 2: Noah Massa (2 unearned runs) was touched two hits in pitching a five-inning complete game for visiting Lockport (16-15, 11-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Ryan Dalton (1-for-3) had two RBI for the Porters and Lorenzo Blazekovich (2-for-3) provided two runs. Mitch Matuszewski went 2-for-2 with a run for Lincoln-Way East (16-14, 6-7).
Richards 14, St. Ignatius 11: Charlie Zeschke (2-for-4, 4 RBI) hit a three-run homer and Nate Natividad (1-for-1) scored four runs to catapult visiting Richards (24-6).
Rich Central 11, Rich East 1: Quinton Jones (2-for-3) had two RBI for visiting Rich Central (15-5, 10-3) in the five-inning Southland contest.
Homewood-Flossmoor 13, Bolingbrook 3: Jonathan Brandt’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth enabled Homewood-Flossmoor (21-6, 9-4) to complete the SouthWest Suburban Blue victory. Brandt finished 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Kendall King (1-for-4, 2 runs) added a two-run double for the Vikings.
Public League Playoffs
Morgan Park 8, Lake View 0: Jarren Norman pitched five innings, yielding two hits and striking out five to vault host Morgan Park (19-7) in the second-round game. Jonathan Hodo (2-for-2) had two RBI for the Mustangs and Christian Bullock (2-for-2) scored twice.
Marist 5, Lincoln-Way East 1: Vanessa Villasenor (1-for-3, 3 RBI) hit a two-run homer and Julie Trellicoso (3-for-4) scored two runs to propel visiting Marist (22-7-1). Zariya Gonzalez (18-4) allowed four hits in pitching a complete game for the RedHawks. Jenny Van Geertry hit a sixth-inning homer for Lincoln-Way East (21-8).
Tinley Park 12, Hillcrest 0: Aubrey Paluszek fanned seven in hurling a perfect game for host Tinley Park (19-4, 17-2) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue affair.
Joliet West 4, Sandburg 3: Brianna Soltis had an RBI single and Madeline Hanley added a run-scoring double for visiting Sandburg (17-12, 8-5) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.
Richards 12, Reavis 0: Sara Kiziak (4-hitter, 7 strikeouts) went the distance and also hit a grand slam to power host Richards (19-6, 16-2) in the South Suburban Red. Emily Wetzel (4-for-4) had two RBI for the Bulldogs in the five-inning contest.
Andrew 22, Thornwood 0: Kayla Noel went 3-for-6 with two runs and five RBI to lead visiting Andrew (23-7, 11-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Jordyn Vogt (2-for-3) added four runs and two RBI for the Thunderbolts in the five-inning tilt.
Lemont 11, T.F. North 1: Emily Durham spun a two-hitter and struck out 11 for visiting Lemont (20-10, 14-4) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue game.
T.F. South 12, Marian Catholic 10: Montana Martinez (2-for-4) had six RBI to pace host T.F. South (17-7). Marian Catholic fell to 13-14.
Crete-Monee 13, Rich East 4: Savannah Kiel’s grand slam led for Crete-Monee (14-7, 9-3) in the Southland.
Shepard 10, Eisenhower 4: Jalyn Stepney’s two-run single highlighted a five-run spree in the first inning for visiting Shepard (18-8, 12-7). Breanna Graffeo (2-for-4) chipped in two runs and two RBI for the Astros in the South Suburban Red.
Class 2A Oak Forest Regional
Oak Forest 5, Queen of Peace 1: Maddie Baxa’s two goals led for Oak Forest (11-12) in the semifinal. Alyssa Gilman added three assists for the Bengals.
Lincoln-Way West 3, Rich South 0: Natalie Tannura scored twice off assists from Breanna Bembenek in pacing Lincoln-Way West (16-5-1).
Class 2A Rich East Regional
Providence 10, Rich East 1: Paige Gorecki, Alyssa Dorning, Marybeth Galick and Regan Flaherty each had two goals for Providence (12-9-2) in the semifinal.
Class 3A Sandburg Regional
Sandburg 7, Oak Lawn 1: Sam Milwit, Ashley Lettiere and Christine Szymanski netted two goals apiece to help Sandburg (11-7-1) advance to the championship.
Eisenhower 25-25, Lemont 16-17: Alec Esparza had 17 digs to lead host Eisenhower (22-11, 7-1) in the South Suburban match.
St. Patrick 25-25, Marian Catholic 10-19: Zak Piekarski had six assists to aid visiting Marian Catholic (8-20, 0-8) in the East Suburban Catholic.
Reavis 25-25, T.F. United 13-17: Adrian Szwab had six kills and four blocks for host Reavis (15-15, 5-2) in the South Suburban.
Lemont 4, Providence 3: Nick Urban prevailed at No. 1 singles for host Lemont (13-4). Juan Diaz-Sanin and Ace Matthews (No. 2 doubles) also had a victory for the Indians.
Ickes to Ignatius: Paul Ickes has been named athletic director at St. Ignatius. Ickes, who coaches the varsity volleyball team at Brother Rice, will start at his new position during the summer.
