Girls Soccer: Three things learned

Updated: May 19, 2014 8:48PM

1. The sweep is complete for Bloom. The Blazing Trojans beat Crete-Monee 3-1 and Rich East 9-0 to finish 10-0 in the Southland Conference. Bloom outscored its league foes 69-1 in steamrolling to the title. Things get much more difficult now. Seeded eighth in the Class 3A Andrew Sectional, the Blazing Trojans opens the playoffs Tuesday against Homewood-Flossmoor, with a likely meeting with top-ranked Lincoln-Way North waiting in the regional final if they get by the Vikings.

2. Chicago Christian has some new hardware for its trophy case. The Knights entered the postseason with a 3-14 record, but are a Class 1A regional champion after capturing the title in the regional they hosted. Chicago Christian topped Mount Assisi 3-1 in the regional semifinal before outlasting top-seeded Francis Parker 7-5 in a wild overtime final. The Knights have their work cut out for them, as they’ll take on a powerful Manteno squad in a sectional semifinal at Manteno.

3. The Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Sectional will be interesting. Top-seeded Lemont certainly is the favorite, but the No. 2 seed and host Warriors, as well as third-seeded Tinley Park, played the Indians tough this season. Lemont and Lincoln-Way West played to a scoreless draw and Lemont topped the Titans 1-0. Lincoln-Way West and Tinley Park split two meetings this season, with Tinley Park winning last week. Fourth-seeded Providence and No. 5 seed Joliet Catholic are on a collision course in the Rich East Regional.
