Baseball: Three things learned

1. Joliet Catholic has a 1-2 pitching punch. Joliet Catholic’s Nick Dalesandro and Drake Fellows are as good as any in the Southland. Dalesandro, a Purdue recruit, topped out at 92 mph Thursday during a 1-0 win over Providence. Ditto Fellows, a Vanderbilt recruit, during a 2-0 win Friday over St. Rita. The scary part, at least for opponents? Dalesandro is a junior and Fellows a sophomore. Yikes.

2. Lemont has a dilemma. Who will coach Brian Storako hand the ball to Wednesday when the Indians take on Oak Forest in a Class 3A Joliet Catholic Regional semifinal? Jake Latz hasn’t allowed an earned run in more than 40 innings. The LSU recruit didn’t pitch during two losses to Oak Forest. Will he get the pill Wednesday? Or will Storako roll the dice and attempt to save Latz for a potential Saturday showdown against either Joliet Catholic or Lincoln-Way West? My take: there is no Saturday if Lemont doesn’t win Wednesday.

3. Brighter days are ahead for Tinley Park. The Titans finished 10-18. The good news is that seven starters should return next season, led by Connor Ceglarz, Steven Gonzalez, Quinn Kelly, Alec Foster and Zach Moravec. The 2015 campaign could be an exciting one for Tinley Park.
