Troy McAllister, who led Phillips to a 20-11 record the past four seasons, has been named football coach at Evergreen Park.
McAllister’s hiring was approved Tuesday night by the Evergreen Park school board.
McAllister succeeds Dan Hartman, who earlier this month accepted the coaching job at Hinsdale Central.
“We had a lot of quality candidates, but we feel like Troy was our best candidate,” Evergreen Park athletic director Jim Soldan said. “He’s done unbelievable things at Phillips. He’s proved he knows what he’s doing.”
It was Phillips that put an end to Evergreen Park’s 2013 season. Phillips stunned the Mustangs 31-21 in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs. Evergreen Park was a perfect 10-0 entering that game.
That meeting was a rematch from Week 2, when Evergreen Park pulled out a 35-32 victory.
Phillips advanced to the 4A quarterfinals, the furthest in the program’s history, and finished 8-4.
“The last couple of years Troy has gotten familiar with our program,” Soldan said. “He runs a spread offense, which is what we’ve run. He understands our type of players. We’re excited to have him lead our program.”
