Girls Soccer: SouthtownStar 2014 All-Area Team

JAZMIN ALDAPE

Bloom, Sr., Midfielder

The IHSSCA All-Sectional pick was one of the area’s top distributors, piling up 22 assists. She also had 13 goals, leading Bloom to 16-2 record. The two-time All-Area honoree will play for St. Xavier.

LEXI CESARIO

Lincoln-Way North, Sr., Defender

In her first year playing in the back, Cesario anchored defense that posted 15 shutouts on the way to state. The all-sectional honoree, who added three goals and four assists, will play for Columbia College (South Carolina).

SARAH DEWOLF

Sandburg, Soph., Forward

The all-sectional selection, whom coach Desi Vuillaume calls “the future of Sandburg soccer” recorded a team-high 11 goals and 10 assists as the Eagles won SouthWest Suburban Blue and regional titles.

BETHANY DOMBKOWSKI

Lincoln-Way North, Sr., Goalkeeper

A huge part of the Phoenix’s first state-qualifying team, Dombkowski recorded 14 shutouts and posted a 0.69 goals-against average. The all-Sectional and all-SouthWest Suburban Red pick will play for St. Francis.

ALYSSA DORNING

Providence, Sr., Midfielder

The all-sectional selection led the Celtics to a 13-10-2 mark, their best record in 11 seasons. She finished with 14 goals and 12 assists. Dorning will play for Illinois Wesleyan.

KELLY FRITZ

Lemont, Sr., Goalkeeper

Three-time All-Area and two-time All-State selection will play for UIC. A four-year starter in goal, Fritz recorded 18 shutouts and had a 0.25 goals-against average this season, leading Indians to a sectional championship.

SYDNEY GOUNTOUNAS

Andrew, Sr., Defender

Moved from an attacking role to central defender this season and thrived, anchoring a defense that posted 11 shutouts. The All-State selection, who scored 33 career goals, will play for Valparaiso.

BRIANNA HEYER

Lincoln-Way West, Soph., Defender

Heyer was a major factor defensively and offensively in the Warriors recording a program-best 18 wins this season. The all-sectional selection anchored defense that posted 0.56 goals-against average, and added 15 goals and seven assists

KIM JERANTOWSKI

Lemont, Sr., Midfielder

The two-time SouthtownStar Player of the Year led Lemont in scoring for the third straight season, recording 24 goals. She finished with 83 career goals and 50 career assists. The All-State selection will play for Northwestern.

JILLIAN KILREA

Lincoln-Way East, Jr., Midfielder

The all-sectional and All-SouthWest Suburban Red selection recorded a goal or an assist in 16 of her 23 games. She finished with nine goals and 11 assists, leading the Griffins to a regional title.

TIFFANI KOTAS

Shepard, Sr., Midfielder

The two-time all-sectional selection helped Astros win three straight South Suburban Red titles. She finished with 11 goals and five assists in earning All-South Suburban Red honors. She’ll play for Purdue-Calumet.

ALEX LENZ

Marist, Soph., Defender

Lenz led a RedHawks defense that posted 13 shutouts, seven coming in the team’s final nine games. The all-sectional and All-East Suburban Catholic selection was also an offensive threat, especially on set pieces.

KYLEIGH MADAY

Providence, Sr., Midfielder

The All-State performer was a key part of the Celtics team for four years. She scored six goals and dished out 10 assists this season as Providence won a regional title. She’ll play for UIC.

EMILY OSOBA

Sandburg, Sr., Midfielder

The All-State selection and four-year varsity starter will play for Illinois. The versatile performer can play any position. She scored seven goals and dished out 10 assists in leading Sandburg to SouthWest Suburban Blue and regional titles.

RACHEL PAPPAS

Lincoln-Way North, Soph., Forward

The leading scorer for the state-qualifying Phoenix finished with 23 goals and five assists. Also led team in goals her freshman year. The all-sectional pick scored in both of North’s games at state.

PAIGE PROCTOR

Lincoln-Way Central, Sr., Defender

The versatile player anchored the Knights defense and also contributed 10 goals and three assists. The all-sectional and All-SouthWest Suburban Red pick who helped Central win a regional title will play for UIC.

AUBREY QUICK

Shepard, Jr., Midfielder

The All-State selection recorded 12 goals and six assists. A two-time All-Area performer, Quick led the Astros to their third straight South Suburban Red title. She was the South Suburban Red Player of the Year.

EMILY RAPPOLD

Mother McAuley, Sr., Forward/Defender

Rappold led the Mighty Macs’ stunning run to the sectional finals as a No. 14 seed. Her move to forward sparked team’s surge. The all-sectional selection scored the only goal in sectional semifinal win over Sandburg.

JENNA RIVERA

Tinley Park, Sr., Midfielder/Defender

The South Suburban Blue Player of the Year will play for Wisconsin-Parkside. Tinley Park’s top offensive threat also could be a lockdown defender when needed. Rivera was All-State this season and is a and two-time All-Area selection.

ALLISON STEFAN

Stagg, Jr., Defender

Stagg’s team Most Valuable Player was an All-SouthWest Suburban Blue pick. While anchoring the back line, Stefan led the team with seven goals and five assists. Scored twice in regional semifinal win over Reavis.

ADRIANA VERA

Crete-Monee, Soph., Forward

One of the area’s top scorers, she finished with 37 goals. The all-Southland Conference pick added five assists and became the leader for a young Warriors squad.

MARY KATE WETZEL

Mount Assisi, Sr. Defender/Midfielder

The all-sectional selection led Mount Assisi to the GCAC White championship in the school’s final year. The lockdown defender also contributed nine goals and 11 assists. Also a standout volleyball and basketball player.
