Weather conditions and a resulting low car and crowd count forced the cancellation of Saturday night’s racing program at Illiana Speedway.
“We gave it our all,” speedway owner/promoter Mike Mikuly said. “We came out there three to four times. We had a lot of rain this morning. When they pulled the rain out of the forecast (about 1 p.m.) we decided, ‘Let’s go for it’ and we tried to dry up the water.
The track still was slick in spots at 5:30 p.m. After meeting with the nine late-model drivers in attendance and the handful of racers in the other divisions, it was decided to run a practice session. Spectators were refunded their money and allowed to stay for the practice.
“I asked them all what they wanted to do and they all wanted to do the same thing,” Mikuly said. “They wanted to have a practice to get their cars dialed in and we should have a good race next week.”
A regular show plus Kids Night with big-wheel races is scheduled for Saturday.
