Golf: Brian Bullington four off the pace after Round 1 of Illinois Open

GLENVIEW — Hoopeston pro Michael Davan fired a 6-under par 66 in Monday’s opening round of the 65th Illinois Open to take a one-shot lead at The Glen Club.

Barrington amateur Alex Burge is alone in second, one stroke back at 67. Four players are tied at 4-under 68, and a trio, including Aurorans Thomas O’Bryan and Bryce Emory are tied for seventh at 69.

Defending champion Joe Kinney, of Antioch, is tied for 16th at 1-under 71.

Frankfort amateur Brian Bullington leads Southland golfers with a 2-under 70.

Other Southland players include amateur Gabe Aprati (74), of New Lenox; Rich Dukelow (75), of Orland Park; former champ Marty Schiene (77), of Mokena; amateur Ryan Frederick (77), of Lockport; amateur Tim Tynan (84), of Orland Park; and amateur Cameron Miller (88), of Oak Lawn.

The field of 156, which includes a record 81 amateurs, and will be cut to the top 50 and ties after Tuesday’s second round. The 54-hole event concludes Wednesday,
