Boys Bowling: ‘Phenomenal performances’ lead Andrew to top of Red

Updated: March 15, 2012 1:38AM

The way Andrew’s boys bowling team dominated the SouthWest Suburban Red this season, Saturday’s conference meet felt like a formality, and one more chance for the Thunderbolts to prep for sectionals.

The T-bolts will head into the sectional they host next week with a head of steam after dominating the Red field. Andrew had four of the top five bowlers and posted a total six-game pinfall of 6,257 to outdistance Lincoln-Way North (5,800) at AMF Lanes in Bolingbrook.

“We were pretty consistent most of the day,” Andrew coach Mark Lobes said. “We got phenomenal performances from our top four bowlers and it was nice to see them all finish (in the top five).”

Andrew also ran away with the race for the overall Red title, which factors in both the regular season and Saturday’s results, finishing with 109 points to Lincoln-Way North’s 76.

It was the third straight Red title for Andrew.

The T-bolts’ Josh Powell took the individual title, finishing with 1,376 pins to top teammate Kyle Damon (1,317).

Powell opened the day with a meet best 265 and never looked back, adding 234s in Games 2 and 4.

“I had a good run last year, but I fell a bit short and got third,” Powell said. “It’s nice to know I won overall. Our team did great and we are confident going into sectionals. It was a nice boost (Saturday).”

Josh Dory (4th, 1,245) and Kyle Krol (5th, 1,210) also had big days for Andrew.

Lincoln-Way North’s Brandon Swiderski (1,250) took third.

“I’m very happy and very excited,” Swiderski said. “I got the oil pattern down early and I just had a pure shot going.”

North’s Chris Shworles, Lincoln-Way West’s Nick Mikoff and Lincoln-Way Central’s Danny Derby all tied for sixth with 1,201 pins to round out the medalists.

West (5,612) finished third, followed by Central (5,516) and Stagg (4,980).
